As we gather this summer, let’s reflect on how we can make our spaces more welcoming and inclusive: Is our space sensory-friendly? How clear is our communication? Are we flexible and accommodating? Is our physical space accessible? How educated are we about neurodiversity and LGBTQ+ difficulties? Creating inclusive spaces requires proactive steps and empathy. This week is World Wellbeing at Work Week, highlighting the importance of creating positive working environments. In recent years, workplaces worldwide have made significant strides in acknowledging the importance of inclusive environments. Amidst this progressive shift, initiatives like World Wellbeing at Work Week have emerged as crucial platforms for advocating mental, emotional, and physical health of employees. While this focus on wellbeing benefits all individuals, it holds particular significance for the LGBT+ community within the workforce. Wellbeing is a state of being comfortable, healthy and happy. It has never before been so important.   Many LGBT+ employees hired too often are not made to feel included or that they can be their authentic selves. Only by changing attitudes can we create an environment where it feels easy to be true to yourself. I know this isn't in the spirit with today being Valentine's Day... but, let's talk about break-ups 💔. I'm not talking about your personal relationship breakups, but about breaking up with your employer. I read an article today by People Management that highlighted “The majority of employees (86%) would be more likely to leave a job if it did not support their well-being.” 💭 I mean, it's not exactly surprising, is it? What i do find surprising is that companies choose not to implement wellbeing benefits, or do the bare minimum and question why they have such high turnover... 🤨 The research surveyed 1,000 UK employees and 300 decision-makers across a range of sectors – and also found that as part of an ‘enhanced benefits package’, 20% of employees would value EDI training, 18% LGBTQ+ inclusion training and 19% workshops on understanding the impact of menopause. This highlights that the needs of every person are unique and reinforces that the one-size-fits-all approach doesn't work. It also sheds light on the difficulty employers face when implementing a benefit that works, just above you can see 3 separate topics alone. The good news for companies is solutions to solve this problem do exist.
