New ESG research from @workiva - unique insights 👇 At Accelerate in London yesterday, the Workiva customer and partner event on all things integrated reporting and regulation, strong themes emerged: - ESG is not the sustainability department's sole responsibility. ESG brings organizations together. #CSRD is just the start. Regulation for all countries is inevitable. - Change is accelerating. - Greenwashing is very last year. Authentic narrative is in. - Corporate reports are now for everyone: employees, partners, suppliers, prospects, candidates. Distribute appropriately.

With teams working to manage the steady flow of new ESG disclosure requirements and requests, this 2024 ESG Practitioners Survey commissioned by Workiva is worth a read. It's in a digestible format, so you can quickly see the latest thinking of ESG practitioners globally. It's great to see ESG practitioners thinking like business leaders, seeking to drive efficiency and reliability through digital transformation with: 92% currently undergoing or planning digital transformation projects to improve collaboration among teams involved in reporting, 91% to enhance workflow, and 90% to integrate controls within the reporting environment. Also, the survey highlights the CSRD emerging as a gold standard for reporting, with 81% of those surveyed indicating they still plan to align all or part of their reporting strategies with it, even though they are not subject to it. Global regulations are creating a gold standard for ESG reporting—and the status quo is no longer an option. After the SEC paused its climate disclosure rule, many financial reporting teams were asking themselves, "Now what?" 🤷♂️🤷♂️ We now have some answers in the form of Workiva's recently released practitioner survey results which found that the majority of companies (81%) surveyed across the U.S., Europe, and APAC plan to voluntarily comply with the EU's #CSRD. 🙋♀️🙋♀️ This tells me that while the SEC paused its climate rule, financial reporting teams shouldn't be pausing their preparation for integrating their financial and non-financial reporting, and being sure it's ready for audit. 🔎🔎 Check out Workiva's post below for a link to the survey results! ESG Reporting Complexity: A Global Challenge for Businesses According to the 2023 Global ESG Practitioner Survey by Workiva, businesses worldwide are struggling with ESG reporting complexity. The survey polled more than 900 professionals with knowledge of ESG reporting at their respective organizations, and found that 74% of respondents expect to be required to comply with two or more global regulations.
