Firsts are for the brave. The bold. The visionary. Up until 1998, female professional boxing was illegal in the UK. Even after it was legalised, lack of access to funding and support kept many from competing. Simply by taking the ring, Nicola Adams shattered perceptions of who is allowed to compete and succeed in sport—becoming the first female boxer to win Olympic gold. 🥊🥇 As the Worldwide Management Consulting Partner of the International Olympic Committee - IOC, we’re using our global scale, deep insights, and understanding of innovation to track the impact of firsts that have happened at the Olympic and Paralympic Games. Gender Diversity taking yet another setback in women sport at the Olympics. 🔙 International Olympic Committee Was Warned About Male Boxers, World Boxing Organization Vice President Says. Speaking to Reduxx, Marshi Smith, the co-founder of the Independent Council on Women’s Sports, condemned the IOC after reviewing the shocking revelations made by Kovács. “The cover-up and championing of male athletes in women’s Olympic sports is the greatest sports scandal of our lifetime,” Smith said. The Independent Council on Women’s Sports (ICONS) is a non-partisan network and advocacy group comprised of current and former collegiate and professional women athletes. The boxing match yesterday between Hungarys Anna Luca Hámori and Algerian Imane Khelif was a non elegant fight where Khelif would turn the match into a strange wrestling thing by grabbing Hámoria by her neck and force her down on the floor 4 times. Even that Hámoria was warned by going ahead with her Olympic match against Khelif she bravely fought for her big dream but only by beating a male boxer. It was, in all ways, a disgraceful boxing match. Equal Playing Fields 👭 . Reading about how many years women have fought being able to participate in sport and experiences the latest new time how more and more sports branches including women is great equal improvement. But reading about the first historian setback in the 1930s for not including women the argument then was; women's health 🙈. Another interesting read is that the Olympic committee back then was the last to approve women participating in the Olympics games. So now we are all waiting for the Olympics committee president Thomas Bach to argue for why they allow men competing against women. They can certainly not use, because of women health and security!!!! Historically the representation of women in the Olympic Committee run behind the rate of its target of presence of women. Time for the Olympic committee to change your own game 👊 👊 #Lagertha #DEI #equalplayingfields #womeninsport #womenhealth #womenmensportteams #fairmatch #keepsportfunandbeautiful #ESG #longevity #genderdiversitygoingmad https://lnkd.in/dpkBxWWE

Last month, the 2024 Olympics showcased more than just athletic talent - it's a goldmine of leadership potential! Team USA secured 126 medals this year, with 257 athletes contributing to the total, as reported by the USOPC. Out of the approximately 10,500 athletes who participated in 48 sports disciplines across the Games, the U.S. competed in all but one and earned medals in 34 of the disciplines it entered. As we watch the next generation of sports icons rise, it's clear that the drive, strategy, and resilience on display in Paris will shape the future of executive leadership in the US sports industry. 🥇 Let’s also recognize the ongoing Paralympics, where athletes continue to inspire as the Games conclude this September. Athletes need to feel supported and protected when speaking up. This requires systems change, a cultural change in the daily training environment so that they can feel safe and supported to speak. But in addition, to get to this place we need to support and educate our coaches to know how to create these health promoting and safe environments for their athletes. We also need to equip coaches with the skills, capabilities and confidence to speak up when they are unsure or need further guidance when managing athlete health and wellbeing issues in sport. I do not believe bad behavior is ever acceptable - but I know for the most, our coaches want to do the right thing but are just not equipped with the necessary understanding, knowledge, skills and capabilities. 2024; a cultural revolution in sport.

Firsts move the world forward. They help make the inconceivable achievable and pave the way for others to follow. It took decades for the first runner to break the 4-minute mile, then 16 runners achieved it within the next year. Sarah Attar ran alone for the last 32s of her race at the London 2012, but as Saudi Arabia’s first ever female Olympic runner, she set a precedent for thousands of female athletes to follow.
