Purpose and Identity Podcast Mini-Series with Nick & Mat Ep 2: The Adventures of a Pro Hockey Player with Nick Johnson Part 2 During part 2 of this conversation, Nick and Mat discuss the conundrum of one’s fixed identity within sport and how it impacts a player’s progression through competitive sports. There are a million books on “how to be successful” written by millionaires and famous people who completely leave out the two most important variables: Who you know and who you are. The latter is something far more within our control. Another High Performance Podcast listen in the bag and with Euros kicking off today, I had to share some thoughts about this episode with Ollie Watkins: https://lnkd.in/eBaP8BwW 📈 He likes to think about his performance a bit like the stock market - there will be ups and downs, wins and losses, but it’s growth over time that actually counts.  You don’t become ‘the man’ when you’ve scored a perfect hat-trick, just like you’re not a terrible player when you’ve had an off game.  It’s the discipline of learning from every performance, good or bad, to build small improvements over time that eventually gets him from Non-League to the Champions League. ❌ So if you’ve smashed it out the park this week, great, but it doesn’t define you.  ❌ If you’ve struggled to get a result in anything this week, it’s ok, that doesn’t define you either.   ✅ What will define your performance and growth over time is the ability to learn from it all. 🤔 A useful reflection is to look at where you are, how you feel, what you know and how you show up now versus this time last year - what’s different, what shaped those differences, what do you want to take forward and what do you want to leave behind?
