These Americans were not charged or convicted; instead, they were uprooted from their lives based on the perception that they had "the face of the enemy" during World War II. This day holds profound significance for our community. It is our opportunity to reflect and educate others about the consequences of unchecked fear and prejudice. In a dual acknowledgment of history and progress, today we also celebrate Presidents Day. On this day we pay tribute to the monumental responsibility of U.S. presidents. As we reflect on the complexity of our nation's history, we honor both the struggle for justice and the leadership that shapes our collective journey.

On January 26th, we remember and honor General Douglas MacArthur, one of the most distinguished and controversial military leaders in United States history. Born in 1880, MacArthur’s military career spanned over half a century, and his actions left an indelible mark on the 20th century. Douglas MacArthur was a prominent figure during World War II, leading the United States Army in the Pacific Theater. His audacious island-hopping campaign and the eventual liberation of the Philippines were instrumental in defeating the Japanese Empire. His famous words, "I shall return," symbolized determination and resolve. Post-World War II, MacArthur was tasked with overseeing the occupation and reconstruction of Japan. His leadership was pivotal in transforming Japan into a democratic nation and rebuilding its economy. He implemented reforms that reshaped Japanese society, government, and economy, fostering a lasting partnership between Japan and the United States. During the Korean War, MacArthur’s command was marked by both military success and political controversy. His audacious landing at Inchon is considered one of the most brilliant military maneuvers in history. However, his disagreements with President Truman over war strategy eventually led to his dismissal.
