Across the country in every community, a coach organizes teams, plans practices and training, and motivates players to strive to be the best they can be. At the same time, coaches pinpoint areas for improvement and supply guidance. Every sport or competition requires a leader. More importantly, a leader who knows the game and drives athletes to work together as a team. #NationalCoachesDay #K12Coaches #K12Teachers #Teachers

Yesterday, I finally had the opportunity to witness a morning training session at a Sumo gym in Tokyo. 🇯🇵 Every day, eight athletes endure rigorous training, preparing themselves for the highest tournaments. Despite being an individual sport, sumo fosters an incredibly strong sense of teamwork. It's not just a sport; it's a martial art deeply rooted in Japanese culture. These athletes don't just train physically; they also train mentally. Team training helps them grow together, support one another, and forge strong connections. Reflecting on this enlightening experience, I'm reminded of some insights shared by James Kerr in 'Legacy.' In the book, Kerr emphasizes the importance of leaders balancing pride with humility, fostering a culture of respect and collaboration within their teams. Additionally, he highlights the significance of perseverance and continuous learning. I believe these principles are essential pillars of effective leadership, guiding individuals and teams toward greatness. As Kerr phrases it, "You are never too important to do the little things that must be done." 🚀

If you know anything about sports then you know it takes the contributions of the entire team to win the game. Most images like the one below are captured after a victory, but what is rarely captured is all the preparation and teaching behind the scenes from the coaches. Teams don't just show up at the game ready to win, they are taught to win. Coaches prepare teams by repetitively teaching good habits. The way for people leaders to improve all aspects of an organization is to consistently educate team members on how they affect the outcome. - Openly expose opportunities - Collectively plan and set goals - Monitor improvements - And HAVE FUN along the way This formula simply works and the results are crystal clear. Kudos to all the people leaders that put in the work behind the scenes, that dig in and get to know their teams, and that understand we are just coaches. Our real jobs are to positively influence a group of people to set their minds on achieving the same goals. #PeopleLeaders #TeamGoals #TeamFocus #TeamExecution #TeamWins

Great managers play chess, not checkers. In chess, strategy is involved. Seeing the big picture, forecasting, innovation, flexibility, etc. Don't forget that managing teams requires strategy (both short & long-term). On the contrary, bad managers are transactional. You do this and this happens. Not very motivational to say the least. But great managers are transformational and relational with their tactics. They understand it's a two-way street partnership that produces the best results. Initially it may take longer, but in the long run it's worth it. So if you're a manager who's playing checkers, stop. Start playing chess and the results will take care of themselves. #manager #strategy #leadership #transformational #motivation

The great Jurgen Klopp announced he is retiring: "It is that I am - how can I say this? - Running out of energy." The demands of coaching/leading are difficult. Here's a chart and a few questions to reflect on if you are a coach & a leader. The Human Function Curve, developed by Peter Nixon - As stress levels increase - performance increases - If stress arousal continues, performance decreases 1.) Where would you say you are right now? 2.) Where would your loved ones say you are right now? 3.) What's your plan?
