As a medical practitioner, I have seen firsthand the devastating impact of foodborne illnesses on individuals and communities. Every year, millions of people fall ill and thousands die from consuming contaminated food. On this World Food Safety Day, I urge everyone to prioritize food safety and take simple precautions to prevent food poisoning. Let us work together to reduce the burden of foodborne diseases and ensure that everyone has access to safe and nutritious food. Food safety is crucial in preventing the spread of antimicrobial resistance, protecting vulnerable populations like the elderly, pregnant women, and young children, and reducing the economic burden of foodborne illnesses. Let us recognize the tireless efforts of food producers, processors, and handlers who work diligently to provide us with safe and healthy food. Let us commit to doing our part in maintaining a safe food system, from farm to table. By working together, we can build a world where everyone has access to safe and nutritious food, and where foodborne illnesses are a thing of the past.
