Department of Work, Employment and Organisation’s Post

Last month, our colleague, Tom Baum was invited as Co-Chair and Keynote Speaker to Tourism State of the Art III in Tenerife, hosted by Universidad de La Laguna and with 250 delegates from 18 countries in attendance. Tourism Sate of the Art I was hosted by the University of Strathclyde in 1994 to celebrate 50 years of tourism and hospitality education and research in the Business School. This was followed by Tourism Sate of the Art II in 2004, again hosted in Glasgow. Universidad de La Laguna requested ‘hosting rights’ to the conference in association with the University of Strathclyde and UN Tourism. Such was the impact of the event on stakeholders from international tourism agencies as well as from the public and private sectors in the Canaries that Tourism State of the Art IV is already in planning for 2034!! You can see from the photographs, Tom received a special thanks for his dedication to tourism education. The personal acknowledgement presented to Tom was a total surprise. Congratulations Tom!
