🔍 Unveiling Tourism Myths: Exploring the Dunning-Kruger Effect in Tourism Education In this groundbreaking research article by Bozana Zekan and co-authors, the prevalent misconceptions surrounding tourism are debunked, revealing a crucial inverse relationship between individuals' belief in these myths and their critical thinking skills. Through a comprehensive survey involving 1493 respondents across 22 universities in 16 countries/territories, the study exposes the Dunning-Kruger effect, showcasing how overconfident individuals are less skeptical about tourism myths, while those with higher critical thinking skills tend to question them more rigorously. Over 6 million people joined study tours last year, higher than pre-pandemic level The China Tourism Academy released a report on Monday saying that education tourism has become popular among people of all ages. More than 6 million people joined study tours last year, higher even than the pre-pandemic number of 4.8 million in 2019, according to the Education, Science, Culture and Public Health Committee of the National People's Congress. "The key difference between study travel and other tourism products is that study travel focuses on learning knowledge while traveling," Luo Shugang, director of the committee, said at a forum on Monday. He said that study travel can be dated back to the Song (960-1279) and Ming dynasties (1368-1644), when many poets wrote of their experiences on study travels. "The nation formed an industry for study travel during the period of reform and opening-up, which has seen rapid development in the past decade," he said, adding that students in primary and middle schools are so far the main participants in education tourism. This productive meeting capped off two years of collaboration aimed at revolutionizing tourism education. Key Highlights: 🔹 Drafting a comprehensive guide for transnational online contests based on our hands-on experiences. 🔹 Finalizing an analysis questionnaire to identify trends and skills gaps in the tourism sector. 🔹 Insightful session with Furio Bednarz, our external evaluator, to assess the project’s impact and refine partner collaboration. 🔹 Developing dissemination strategies and reviewing our online and CVET training course catalogues. 🔹 Immersive cultural visits to Govone Castle and Albino Rocca winery, topped off with a delightful social dinner in Diano d’Alba. Dilara Bahtiyar Sari and Metin Surme contributed chapter 9, titled “The metaphorical perceptions of tourism students on the relationship between tourism and peace”. In this chapter, the authors argue that tourism and peace can be expressed as two phenomena that complement each other and allow each other to develop. Binary groups that provide the mutual interactions of these phenomena include tourist-local populations, tourist-tourism worker and local population-tourism worker. However, there are also students who are not typically included in the interaction network but receive tourism education and are expected to join this network as tourism workers in the future. Therefore, the views of tourism students on how they perceive the tourism and peace relationship are important. This chapter examined the perceptions of university students who receive tourism education towards peace by using the metaphor analysis method. A phenomenology research design was used in this study, drawing from the students studying at Gaziantep University Vocational School of Tourism and Hotel Management in the 2022-2023 academic year. The data obtained were analyzed in accordance with the content analysis and a total of 31 valid metaphors were produced. These produced metaphors were evaluated under three different conceptual categories as emotional, relational and holistic. Tourism students stated that there is a relationship between tourism and peace and that they complement each other, forming a whole. Kicking off the year with the publication of an article that I am very excited about, "Unveiling the intersections between tourism industry and student mobility", in Population, Space & Place, with my colleagues and friends Daniel Malet Calvo and Iñigo Sánchez (both from the LXNIGHTS  Research Group). This article is the result of many years of intensive fieldwork on the central role of student organizations in the commercialization of international students' leisure time, bringing them into 'travel and consumption circuits' that are also populated by tourists. Throughout the article, we argue that these organizations, in their association with the tourism and leisure sectors, are contributing to socio-spatial segregation between local and international students.
