Happy Monday, all! 👋🏼 Took a bit of a small break from LinkedIn last week for a mental reset. Now it's back to the trenches for me~ 👍🏼 Let's start off with this thing that made me chuckle today. There was a LI post on an open position with a company that seemed right up my alley so I clicked through and filled out the application. When I clicked on the "Submit Application" button, a message popped up. "It looks like maybe you've already applied to this job?" I think it was the tone of this sentence that took me out and couldn't help but think, "I don't know... HAVE I applied to this job already?" 🤔 Going through my Inbox, I didn't find any receipts from this role but I did look through my Simplify Job Tracker and found it there (shoutouts to the team over there and ensuring that I'm not completely insane 🤣). Turns out I applied to this position back in early September. But almost two months later, the job description is back up which seems to be the trend for roles these days. You see the job description live, you apply, you hear nothing back, and then you find the same JD a month or so later. I will give this company credit for implementing this so that they aren't dealing with duplicate applications from one person. This is the first time I've seen something like this and I think other companies could benefit from adding it for their own openings so that they can avoid getting overwhelmed themselves. This would probably be the part where I try to reach out to something from the company and inquire more about the role. It wouldn't hurt to try, for sure. Today I hit 10k followers only 7 months past my goal. It took me many many years of posting to get to this point. Mainly because it’s all organic growth, I sent out very few connection requests. Most will say follower count doesn’t matter. But it’s helped accomplish some cool things: 1. Has helped from a talent pipeline and recruiting standpoint. 2. Has helped me network and meet a lot of great people who help me and I help them as well. 3. I’ve landed consulting gigs and paid posts so LinkedIn has also made me money which is awesome. 4.Lastly and most importantly LinkedIn and my network have been a huge help getting me in front of the hiring manager at my last three roles vs. just being a resume in a stack. Stop thinking about what people are going to say, and just start posting if that’s what you really want to do. Someone out there will learn something from you and that’s all I really care about at the end of the day.

🤦♂️ Calling out IT recruiters! 🤦♀️ Let's talk about a real pet peeve: recruitors who can't be bothered do their homework before hitting send. 📬 Here's the deal: If you're sliding into someone's DMs with a JD that doesn't even align with their skills or career goals, you're not just wasting their time, you're wasting yours too! And let's not get started on the radio silence when candidates ask for basic info about the company or role. 🤷♂️ Seriously, if you can't bothered to respond, why you're reaching out in the first place? 🙄 Here's a hot tip: Stop spamming someone's inbox if you can't take two seconds to personalize our message or provide relevant details. 🚫 Just a friendly reminder from someone who's tired of the recruitment spam. Free (+ easy) things to do to support peers during their “What’s Next” journey: — Ask to learn more about types of roles and companies they’re interested in working at next to share relevant opportunities with them. — Offer to hop on a call to chat, vent, etc. We all need this from time to time. — Share *good* roles in relevant communities to help folks there land a new role. — React, comment, or share posts on #LinkedIn to amplify jobs — During 1:1 coffee chats, if someone mentions that they’re hiring, dig into it politely to see if you can help them (and maybe someone else in your network simultaneously) — Offer to be a reference. ⭐️ I had the opportunity to be one recently for a peer. They got the role, and I feel ecstatic knowing I played a small part in their journey! — Review their resume/LinkedIn profile. #JobSearch #CareerAdvice

Two years ago, I was recruited by LinkedIn, but that’s not exactly where our story began… Before an amazing recruiter (Thank you, Maria Suasti!) reached out to me, I had already applied for, and was politely rejected from, three other open roles within the company. In a fun twist of fate, one of those roles was for the team I am currently working on and I know the person who got it instead of me (for anyone on my team reading this and wondering - yes, it’s definitely you 👀 ). Why am I telling you this instead of bragging very loudly about the part where I got recruited by a fancy tech company? ► I firmly believe I never would have gotten on the radar of my recruiter if I hadn’t already applied to the other three roles first.  ► I love my job. I love my team. I love my boss. Those other roles were not meant for me. Had I gotten them, I would’ve been fine, but I wouldn’t have really thrived.  ► Big changes (homes, jobs, relationships, etc.) are often met with more rejections than wins. When we share the whole story with others, we normalize the reality of a very human experience. I have so many examples of getting rejected that I could write a large book on the topic. More importantly, I can finish each chapter by telling you the cool stuff I got to do instead. So go out there and get comfortable with getting rejected. You never know where it may lead!

How to Auto-Archive Job Rejections in Gmail You’re welcome. 1. Embrace Reality Open Gmail, take a deep breath, and brace yourself. You've got this! 2. Create a Filter Click that tiny drop-down arrow in the search bar. Time to channel your inner tech genius (or at least pretend to). 3. Set Search Criteria Enter your favorite soul-crushing phrases like “job rejection”, “we regret to inform you”, “unfortunately”, “not selected”, etc. - Feel free to add specifics like: - From: [Specific Sender] - Subject: “rejection" or "unsuccessful" - Has the words: “we regret to inform you" OR "you have not been selected" Basically, anything that screams “better luck never.” 4. Create Filter After pouring out your despair into the criteria, click “Create filter” at the bottom. Consider this your digital therapy. 5. Set Filter Action - Check “Skip the Inbox (Archive it)” because who needs that negativity in their life? - Optionally, mark it as read so you can pretend it never happened. Ignorance is bliss, right? - Click “Create filter” to seal your fate. 6. Manage Filters - Go to Gmail settings (gear icon ⚙️, “See all settings”). - Navigate to “Filters and Blocked Addresses” to tweak or delete your filters anytime you need to adjust your rejection management strategy. And just like that, your inbox will be rejection-free! Now you can focus on those amazing opportunities ahead without a constant reminder of the ones that didn't quite fit. 2024 is the year you get hired. Here's what to do: ✅  Treat the search like a 9-5 job.  Seriously, schedule it in. ✅ Network like a boss.  Both online + offline.  Zoom coffees, meetups, conferences, etc. ✅ Get specific.  You’re easier to find when people know exactly what you’re looking for. ✅  Be patient.  It may take a bit longer to land a gig these days.  That's okay. ✅ Be proactive Act before you're ready.  Hunt down 'wishlist' job openings. Don't just wait for companies to post. ✅ Work with a recruiter They have direct access to job opportunities that may not be made public. ✅ Get your LinkedIn in order.  Update it → Post content → Engage with others. One tip for job seekers: If you spot a job you like on LinkedIn or in a community and it fits your skills: You've got a name, You're directly connected to the hiring person. This is your chance to: ✅ Get noticed, ✅ Make a strong impression, ✅ Stand out, ✅ Prove you're the right fit. Advice? Take a moment to explain WHY: Why you're a perfect fit, Why you're interested, Why your experience matches the role, Why you should be considered. Use this chance to GET NOTICED. Over the weekend, I shared that I was helping hire for two roles: I gave some basics and asked people to DM if interested. Intentionally, I didn't ask for more: I expected proactive, standout responses. But only a few did more than: "I'm interested. Here's my LinkedIn." Not even mentioning which role or asking to chat. In tough markets, you MUST stand out, communicate well, and show initiative. Especially in RevOps roles: Your ability to do this shows your potential for success.
