Golden Arrow Resources Corporation (TSX-V:GRG, OTCQB:GARWF) reported that it has granted Sociedad de Servicios Andinos SpA (SSA) the option to acquire a significant stake in the San Pietro project in Chile. New Golden Explorations Chile SpA (NGE), its wholly-owned subsidiary, had granted SSA the option to subscribe for 333 shares in the capital of NGE, amounting to approximately 25% of the issued and outstanding shares upon exercise of the option. The company received conditional approval of the transaction from the TSX Venture Exchange in January 2024 and subsequently, NGE received a total of US$616,817 in cash option payments from SSA. SSA is obligated to conduct drilling services at the San Pietro project, for which they have procured a new diamond drilling rig along with other necessary equipment and personnel. An increase in ownership by large publicly traded energy companies in the Permian is driving their smaller peers to look for acquisitions in less-favored areas, creating sale opportunities for private-equity sponsors. Private-equity firms specializing in energy have secured a number of the largest exit deals in the Permian in recent years, but have found it more difficult to sell assets in less-popular areas, industry analysts said. SM Energy’s operations today are concentrated in the Midland Basin, a subregion of the broader Permian in West Texas, and the Eagle Ford shale region in South Texas.

M&A keeps coming thick and fast in the Permian Basin of Texas and New Mexico, putting more of the prolific US tight oil play's resources in the hands of just a few big producers. In the latest transaction, Texas independent Diamondback Energy is acquiring privately held Endeavor Resources, which will make it the play's third-largest producer — and largest "pure play" — once the deal goes through. Notably, the Permian's leading operators are forming different strategies regarding production growth in response to investor demands. Majors Chevron and Exxon Mobil are leading the charge, while ConocoPhillips targets modest increases, yet Diamondback and Occidental Petroleum intend to hold the line.
