This past Saturday, I participated in the AmplifyME Applied Asset Management Simulation and successfully achieved my Level 4 Diploma in the field, issued in conjunction with The London Institute of Banking & Finance. The experience was truly exhilarating and I immensely enjoyed carrying out the duties required of a Fund Manager. The simulation revolved around interpreting global macroeconomic trends using key indicators (consisting of reacting to constant breaking news + utilising a research analysts’ forecast before Q1 to allocate capital before trading had started) and implementing our theoretical concepts by making various asset class allocations with the aim of achieving alpha for the fictitious client provided. Due to time allotment, trading concluded at the end of Q3. During Q1, my strategy leaned towards optimistic growth in promising sectors detailed within the analysts’ projections, resulting in a diversified range of equities particularly investing in the US Index anticipating strong growth. I accomplished a realised profit of approximately 230k from an initial 20-million-dollar investment, along with an unrealized profit around 400k. Overall, I achieved the #1 ranking of total ROI out of 90 participants, exhibiting my strong investment identification capabilities. As Q2 unfolded, my investments primarily centred around investing within emerging markets whilst maintaining my equity position in the US Index. By the quarter's end, I had realised gains of approximately 580k and unrealised gains of about 320k. The third and final quarter, brought about intriguing developments. Considering news emerging during Q2, I recognised that I could have adjusted my strategy to align with the potential of an impending recession in Europe earlier on than I had executed. Gold experienced a substantial increase, and I managed to capitalise on a significant portion of this upswing. I swiftly shifted my approach to an extremely defensive stance investing in commodities and government bonds. This adjustment aided in mitigating losses on behalf of my client. I gained an immeasurable wealth of knowledge about Asset Management through the simulation. Particularly, I learnt that my Risk Appetite and Risk Management were certainly strengths associated with my trading characteristics. I want to extend my gratitude to AmplifyME for providing us with this fantastic opportunity to learn about the Asset Management sector. I'm eager to share the enriching experience that has significantly shaped my understanding of the dynamic field of wealth management. 💡 Strategic Investment Research: As an intern, I was entrusted with a unique challenge—a simulated budget of £10 million. My task? To meticulously research companies and other investment assets, with the goal of constructing a portfolio poised to outperform the S&P 500 within one year. This hands-on experience not only honed my research skills but also provided a real-world perspective on strategic investment decision-making. 📊 Crafting a Diversified Portfolio: To cap off the internship, I presented a comprehensive portfolio to the management team, justifying each investment choice. The portfolio was a well-balanced mix, with 70% in Equities (stocks and structured products), 15% in Fixed-Income Assets (treasury bills and bonds), and 15% in Alternative Assets (futures, gold, oil, diversified ETFs). This exercise not only tested my analytical skills but also reinforced the importance of diversification in wealth management. 📚 Daily Learning and Training Sessions: Plurimi Wealth LLP didn't just offer tasks; it provided a holistic learning environment. Daily lessons and training sessions covered a spectrum of topics, from option trading to structured products, client relationships, and objectives. This exposure offered a well-rounded education in asset management, providing valuable insights into the multifaceted skills required to make a positive impact in the industry. 👥 A Mentor Beyond Compare: A pivotal aspect of my summer journey was the guidance and mentorship provided by Nasser Sabbagh and Rashid Hotalwala, ASIP. Their expertise and willingness to share insights transformed the learning experience. Nasser and Rashid's mentorship not only enriched my understanding of the complexities of wealth management but also made the entire experience enjoyable. The support and encouragement created an environment where questions were welcomed, and learning was a collaborative endeavour. 🌐 Wealth Management Essentials: My summer at Plurimi also served as a crash course in wealth management essentials. From the basics of portfolio management to in-depth lessons on investment opportunity research and evaluation methods, I gained a solid foundation in key practices essential to success in the wealth management arena. The Abu Dhabi Global Market (ADGM) posted a record surge in its assets under management during the first quarter of 2024, driven by an "unprecedented influx" of global asset managers establishing operations in the international financial centre. AUMs soared by 211 per cent annually in the three months ended March, as the number of operational entities rose by 30 per cent year-on-year to 1,950, including 291 financial services entities, ADGM said on Monday. The number of fund and asset managers operating at ADGM reached 107, which collectively manage 137 funds.
