Soft fronts and hard backs: GreenBiz is a wrap, and I'm leaving with a mix of emotions: 66% unbridled optimism and 33% healthy realism. The optimism? It's rooted in reality of the new generation of sustainability rockstars joining the movement. Diverse, passionate, and armed with fresh visions and platforms, what they want out of sustainability is inspiring and thrilling. Seeing the sheer variety of participants, from startups to nonprofits to corporate giants, was a powerful reminder that we're not alone in this fight. Big thanks to our government, nonprofit and industry champions for making that happen. Now, how where do we go from here? That's where the realism kicks in. When everything is lining up the way it should, let's go big, let's push harder and farther. But, when things aren't lining up as well and we're stuck, I'll remember what my elders in the industry generously shared: work on existing business artefacts, like documents, mechanisms and programs and improve them. I also had a chance to meet brilliant people, share laughs, challenge each other's perspectives, and bond over shared passions. I was reminded once again that sustainability is a marathon, not a sprint. There will be soft patches but also moments where you question everything.
