Major automakers announce 800-V electric vehicle models, marking a continued shift toward higher power and higher voltage for EVs and EV charging infrastructure. The advantages of higher-voltage models include faster charging times and the potential to reduce vehicle weight because the lower current enables thinner cables and smaller components. However, charging infrastructure must be able to keep up to support higher-voltage EVs. Many charging stations today are optimized for 400 V, the most common voltage level of EV models today.
