A quick search for #globalisation today and you will be assailed with articles predicting the end to globalisation. Trade tensions, friend-shoring or near-shoring has lead to all kinds of pessimism about a world in retreat. This couldn't be further from the truth. In supply chains the diversification of sourcing has meant that supply chains are ever more complex and international. For example moving production centres results in tier two suppliers having to ship to new locations, deepening and stretching global supply chains. Globalization is at an all-time high - despite pandemic and geopolitical conflicts. The proof is in the numbers in the latest edition of the DHL Global Connectedness Report, released by #DHL in partnership with New York University’s Stern School of Business. With nine million data points, the report is the most comprehensive analysis available of the state and trajectory of globalization. It tracks how flows of trade, capital, information, and people move around the world and measures the globalization of 181 countries and territories. The realignment of global value chains is an ongoing process with significant implications for the future of global trade and economic globalization. The average distance between firms has increased, suggesting a shift in supply chain dynamics, but network density has not increased significantly. The long-term trend of regional integration in supply chains, particularly in Asia, remains intact. These findings highlight the importance of monitoring the evolving landscape of global value chains to better understand their resilience and adaptability in the face of global challenges and disruptions. #supplychain #globalization
