PhD | Portfolio System Manager at Lundbeck | Project Management, Drug Development, Portfolio & Resource Analysis, and keeping #EveryBrainInTheGame up to date
📢 Giving a commercial voice to the pipeline is how Natalia Borniquel, VP of New Product Planning (NPP) at Lundbeck, describes her job. Curious about what that entails and how it could be a great career path for you? Keep reading this #LundbeckMakingTheJump to find out. Q: What is NPP? New Product Planning (NPP) serves as the commercial voice of the pipeline. We work closely with R&D teams, anchoring in the science while aligning with the needs of the market, physicians, payers, and patients. Our goal is to anticipate what will be needed in 5-10+ years and influence the development path of pipeline programs. The core of NPP is to develop the Target Product Profile, the blueprint that defines the indication, required efficacy levels and how we differentiate from existing and upcoming products. Q: How did you get here? I have a background in veterinary science and later completed an MBA, and realized I wanted to intersect science with business. I started in manufacturing, which was far from the patient but provided a solid foundation in processes. My curiosity led me to customer insights, where I learned about the competitive landscape. However, I felt distanced from R&D and wanted to understand why we weren't developing the best products for patients. This curiosity drove me to portfolio management, allowing me to see the entire process from lab to launch. I moved to NPP, then marketing, and launch roles, finding my sweet spot at the intersection of science and business. My journey has been a blend of seizing opportunities and continuously asking questions to learn more. With a scientific background, there are more opportunities than you might initially anticipate. Q: Why Lundbeck? I joined Lundbeck in September 2020 as VP of NPP. I was drawn by the company's purpose and its focus on CNS diseases. The impact on society, especially given how much work remains to be done in CNS, resonated deeply with me. Lundbeck is in a moment of change, and as a mid-sized company, it offers the chance to be a change agent and actively contribute to its transformation. Q: Skills? Future-oriented individuals who don't necessarily aim to become subject experts but who enjoy seeing connections across different subject areas thrive in NPP. Strong collaboration skills and a knack for solving puzzles and navigating ambiguity are essential. The role involves both imagining and creating the future. Experience in any area providing market understanding can complement technical knowledge and bio-background insights. Consulting experience is particularly powerful as it fosters an analytical mindset and curiosity to ask forward-looking questions, boosting one's profile. Q: In 5 years? I see myself in a role that continues to combine science and business, requiring a forward-looking perspective. Pharma is in an exciting phase, and I want to be a key player in shaping the future.
