United Nations International Day in Support of Victims of Torture, June 26 As we approach June 26th, the United Nations International Day in Support of Victims of Torture, we, at Centre for Disability in Development (CDD), reflect deeply on the profound impact of torture on persons, families, and communities worldwide. This day serves as a solemn reminder of the resilience of survivors and the urgent need to uphold human dignity and justice for all. At CDD, our commitment to this cause remains unwavering. Through advocacy, legal support, psychosocial care, and awareness-raising initiatives, we strive to empower survivors and their communities. We collaborate with local and international partners to strengthen protections, enhance rehabilitation services, and promote human rights education as fundamental tools in our collective fight against torture. Together, let us forge ahead with hope and determination, knowing that our collective efforts today will shape a future where torture has no place in our world. In solidarity, Centre for Disability in Development (CDD)

A huge #thankyou to the youth and staff at Defense for Children International Palestine for an informative and clarifying conversation on children's rights and realities, everyone who co-created space for the incredible youth panelists to share their lived experiences and #dreams of #safefutures, and my colleagues Maha El-Sheikh Ylva van den Berg & more who organized this event. When asked about what they dream of for 🍉's future, one of the adolescents said, "I see joy everywhere". One thing that has stuck with me is young people's desire to be able to have, to put it simply, the same life as everyone else -- a life where they don't have to feel fear every time they leave their homes, walk through checkpoints, or worry about being tear-gassed when they play outside. You can listen to the conversation via the Kalpvraksh podcast on: 🍉 Spotify: https://lnkd.in/ebNuHpff 🍉 ListenNotes: https://lnkd.in/eEGcFned Children have undeniable rights to safety, health, education, food, and shelter. As adults, it is our collective responsibility to ensure that children's rights are protected. You can support youth by using your voice and platform to speak up for their rights, by making decisions in your professional roles which support and open space for youth empowerment and safety, and to, as the youth said, "question those who would take away our rights."
Are you passionate about #participation and #inclusion of children and youth? Want to understand more about the realities of #childprotection under occupation? Want to help build a world which values the lives of all people equally, and in which all of us are safe? On Friday, April 5th, at 2 p.m. UK time, please join my global humanitarian & development colleagues in commemorating 🍉 Child's Day by learning about concepts such as adultification, hearing directly from youth on their visions for safe futures, and holding space for young people who deserve a chance to have a future. All attendees have been asked to jointly ensure child protection and youth safeguarding. Register here: https://lnkd.in/eVCENa6F

Did you know that connection meetings around a cup of coffee has great potential to strengthen collaboration between child protection role-players? At Ezrah, we are so proud of our dedicated child protection stakeholders who participate in our quarterly child protection meetings. At these empowering events, mandates are shared and best practice models are built for serving vulnerable children. We want to give special thanks to Col. Jonkers and Col. Dampies from the Western Cape FCS, Forensic Social Work Department, who shared the FCS Forensic Social Work mandate with our group on the 10th of April. Here is the value of these working group meetings in the words of Lee-Anne Jones (Social Worker): “The fact that we can share with one another in clarifying our roles within the sector to find best practices in helping the child, allows us to strengthen relationships and understanding among stakeholders.” A huge shoutout to the delegates from the following organisations for their enthusiastic participation in this event: Stellcare Stellenbosch, Dept. of Social Development Paarl, Khula Development Group, Dept. of Education Cape Winelands, FCS (SAPS) Paarl and Stellenbosch, Childline WC, Kin Culture NPC, Dept. of Health Cape Winelands, RealDeal Trust, Thuthuzela Care Centre (Paarl and Stellenbosch) and Spieel Collective. Together we can create resilient spaces where children matter 🤝 #ezrah #ezrahctd #community #traininganddevelopment #childprotection #childrenmatter #communitydevelopment #leadershipdevelopment #empowerthenextgeneration #together

Meet Hector. 🤩 This is his story. And ours. When we say our purifiers are “handcrafted in America,” it means handcrafted here in Buffalo, New York… It also means handcrafted by real people (like Hector). When we say we are “changing lives,” it means we are changing the lives of our customers around the world who can finally breathe better… It also means we are changing the lives of employees (like Hector), who not only find gainful employment here, but also dignity, friendships, and a new outlook on life. When we say, “that’s the impact of Austin,” it means the health impact Austin Air makes around the globe… It also means the economic impact we make putting money back into the local economy through partnerships with organizations such as New York State Industries for the Disabled, Inc. (NYSID) and The Arc Erie County New York that help us employ eager workers with disabilities (like Hector). #employmentfordisabled #changinglives #americanbusiness #disabilityawareness #BusinessPartnership #impactmakers #cleanair https://lnkd.in/gpK9ybrj

At the core of everything we do, is utilize our lived experiences to bridge connection to our community to support the elevation of others. We all have experiences that have led us to where we are, and why we are doing the work we are doing. We are here to celebrate our differences while bridging a community of diversity to bring us all together through employment advocacy initiatives. We believe in Peer Support, Peer 2 Peer Mentorship, and for those seeking recovery having the supports in place to drive consistent encouragement through Recovery Coaching. We recognize the importance of Harm Reduction, while maintaining a lens focused on health and prosperity for all individuals and for many that means recovery - whatever recovery means to that person. We are here to meet folks where they are and provide opportunities that reduce barriers to employment while maintaining a respectful atmosphere, and a community of trust and safety. #peersupport #peer2peer #recovery #recoverycoach #peermentor #womenforwomen #peerwork #transitionalemployment #workplaceadvocacy

At Safe & Together Institute, our mission is personal. Many of us are survivors ourselves, we know firsthand the critical importance of transforming how systems & professionals respond to domestic abuse. This work isn't easy, but we're tenaciousAF and in it for the long haul. Our goal is nothing short of shifting the goalposts and revolutionizing how systems respond to domestic abuse. We invite you to join us in building a world where survivors are believed, children are protected, and abusive behavior is no longer tolerated & workers are supported in doing their jobs ethically, efficiently, effectively. Are you prepared to lead the way in fostering child safety and wellbeing? Our work is grounded in the 10 National Principles for Child Safe Organisations. These principles have been endorsed by the Prime Minister and state and territory First Ministers, aiming to provide a nationally consistent approach to fostering child safety and wellbeing. While the National Principles are not mandatory, organisations that implement them demonstrate leadership and commitment to child safety and wellbeing. These organisations will become 'organisations of choice', instilling confidence in children, young people, families, and communities that they provide safe environments where children's rights, needs, and interests are met. Are you ready to show your commitment to protecting and empowering children today? #Perth #Childrenrights #EndChildPovertyCampaign #Listentochildren #Kids #Ausgov #Mumsandads #ProtectionofChildren #ValuingChildrenInitiative #Parents #EndChildPoverty #PerthisOk #Centrecare #VCI #LegislatetoEndChildPoverty #ValuingChildrenInitiative #Nochildinpoverty https://lnkd.in/g-PWPjVP

Neurodivergent.| Founding CEO and director of My Trauma Is Chronic, But I Am Iconic!!|Expert by Experience at SLAM NHS and Merton Local Authority.|Multipotentialite.
It's incredibly inspiring to hear about your two-year campaign advocating for care experience to be recognised as a protected characteristic. Your dedication to this cause, fuelled by both personal experience and a desire for justice, is truly commendable. Your words paint a vivid picture of the struggles faced by young people in the care system, from discrimination in education to living conditions that fall far below acceptable standards, to the lasting impact of childhood trauma. It's clear that there's a pressing need for change, and your tireless efforts are helping to bring attention to these issues. The commitment from Edward J Davey, Liberal Democrats and their acknowledgment of the flaws in the current care system in their manifesto is a significant step forward. By promising to make care experience a protected characteristic, they're recognising the importance of addressing the systemic challenges that young people in care face. Your advocacy is making a real difference, and your determination to ensure that no young person has to sacrifice their dreams due to a flawed system is both powerful and necessary. Thank you for your unwavering commitment to this important cause. #changeiscoming #MTICBIAI #MyTraumaIsChronicButIAmIconic #CareExperience #ProtectedCharacteristic #CampaigningForChange #EducationEquality #BetterLivingConditions #ChildhoodTraumaAwareness #SystemicChange #AcknowledgingStruggles #ManifestoPromise #YouthAdvocacy #MakingADifference #DreamsNotSacrificed #SocialJustice #PolicyChange #EndDiscrimination
Best Selling Author of 'Damaged & The State of It'. National Campaigner. Speaker. Care Experienced. Agents: Graham Maw Christie
For the past two years, I have been campaigning for care experience to be a protected characteristic. It's personal on many levels but more so for all the young people in our system who face discrimination every single day. It's for the young girl in Halifax who got the best grades in the country but was refused a place at a prestigious college because she didn't fit the credentials. It's for all the young people forced to live in Squalor because some landlords don't understand the system. It's for all the young people haunted by their childhood traumas. It's for all the young people who are forced to let go of their dreams because at 18, they're pushed off the care cliff, and survival takes priority. So today, @EdwardJDavey & @LibDems were true to their word and acknowledged our fragmented care system in their manifesto with the promise to make the care experience a protected characteristic.
