"Childhood is the most beautiful of all life's seasons. Let’s protect it." Why It Matters: 1.Education: Every child deserves to go to school and learn, not work. 2.Health: Child labour often involves hazardous conditions, risking children's health and development. 3.Rights: Every child has the right to a childhood free from exploitation and abuse. How You Can Help: 1.Raise Awareness: Share information about the impacts of child labour with your community. 2.Support Organizations: Donate or volunteer with organizations working to end child labour. 3,Advocate: Urge governments and businesses to implement and enforce laws against child labor. As a nearing graduate of UNCG, I will soon be finishing my internship at Charles Aris Executive Search Firm as a Research Intern and am nearing my entrance into the workforce. Thoroughly enjoying my time at Charles Aris, I conducted an interview with an employee, Laura Sehlhorst, whom I have been privileged to work alongside throughout my time in these past eight months. Laura is a Sr. Researcher at Charles Aris and had many positive things to say about her job, experiences, and the company at large. As much as I wish, I was not able to fit everything in this short article, but hope to still do my best to express her responses in the depth in which she gave them. Laura explained that her job can vary from day to day as priorities change, but her job is part of a team that is essentially the backbone of searches that take place at Charles Aris. Her daily tasks involve, but are not limited to, running search paths and building market maps to find contact information for potential clients/businesses to pass on to recruiters. She also works heavily with a new sector at Charles Aris, Charles Aris Transaction Services (CATS). While Laura didn’t acquire the “average” degree for this particular position, her curious researcher mindset helped set her up for the success she has achieved today. Working just 10 months part-time, she quickly showcased her strong work ethic and interest, getting her a full-time position. When asked if she would choose the same career if she could start over, she quickly and confidently said, “Yes!” She never imagined that her first career would be remote, but COVID-19 forced her to adapt to the changes. The most rewarding thing for Laura in this position has been the company’s culture. Unlike many other corporate American companies, employees at Charles Aris are treated like family and trained to be successful. As their cause states (https://charlesaris.com/), they strive to change lives, transform businesses, and enrich communities. With various trainings every week, in-person events for guaranteed personal interaction, and multiple community involvement opportunities, employees are guaranteed to find this true. Charles Aris is a place where employees and clients alike can feel valued, seen, and appreciated with endless growth opportunities. Laura’s best piece of advice is simply to “stay focused and keep swimming.” She states that research can be frustrating sometimes, but it’s important to give yourself grace and to keep moving forward. I was deeply honored and appreciative to take some of Laura’s time to conduct this interview and thoroughly intrigued to hear more about the company and her experience. Thank you Laura Sehlhorst for your time, knowledge, and guidance throughout this internship!

GIVING DAY IS HERE!! Our office, Virginia Tech Career and Professional Development (CPD), is accepting donations as a part of #VTGivingDay from now until noon tomorrow (2/22). Every dollar you donate will go directly to CPD to help students in need! Did you know that the average wage for an intern is $20.76/hour, and the average wage for a student on co-op is $20.20/hour? (https://lnkd.in/emaJZg8f) Without the financial support of these wages, many students are unable to cover the costs of unpaid internships. Virginia Tech Career and Professional Development wants to help fill these gaps for students, and we need YOUR help. By contributing to our Giving Day fund, you can help support Hokies in unpaid internships and offset other hidden costs of participating in internships such as the cost of transportation, housing, relocation, required work attire and materials, and other living expenses. If you are interested in donating, please follow this link before tomorrow (2/22) at 12:00 PM; https://lnkd.in/eDWKYb6H. We are excited to see these funds put to use because of your generosity!
