I couldn't agree more with this perspective. In my experience with healthcare startups, I've seen the critical importance of merging clinical expertise with business strategy. Clinicians have a profound understanding of the system's needs, yet often lack the business acumen to implement effective solutions. On the other hand, business professionals bring essential strategic insights but may miss the nuances of clinical realities. The most successful ventures are those that strike a balance—either by cultivating leaders who are adept in both fields or by forming teams that combine deep clinical knowledge with sharp business instincts. This approach not only drives innovation but also significantly improves patient outcomes and business performance. As a pharmacist and lead growth strategist, I deeply understand the need for constant innovation in healthcare, especially in the realms of online pharmacy and digital marketplace strategies. Recently, I came across an insightful Harvard Business Review article. It struck a chord because I've witnessed many corporations pour resources into innovation without tangible results. The key takeaway? Strategy must guide every step of the innovation process. This aligns with my personal journey. Defining clear growth priorities informed by deep customer insights is essential. Equally important is understanding our company's unique advantages, such as customer data or market reach. A few controversial things I believe about “disruption” in Med Tech: 1) Medtech has been duped into thinking “disruption” is how you become the market leader. Nicolas Cole says it this way: “Disruption,” has done a great disservice to entrepreneurs, executives, creators, and investors. It has trained a generation (or two) of brilliant minds to think that the way you build a company of consequence is by taking the industry that currently exists (“ the red ocean”) and “disrupting” it (by discovering a blue ocean). You go in. You make a crack in the pavement. And the result of your actions is that whatever came before you comes crumbling down. Said differently, when you’re “disrupting,” you’re tearing down the old thing—not creating a net-new thing.” 2) If history has taught us anything, it’s that disruption is largely unproductive. Disruption, fundamentally, is fighting over scarce resources. Disruptive leaders operate from the past and present, while next-practice leaders find ways to bring people together to create net-new resources. - Disruption can be a fast-track to the messy middle. “We want you to not use the past as a point of reference, but a DIFFERENT future you want to create and design.” ~ Nicolas Cole So do something else.

In the future, healthcare is coming up with more new ideas than tech companies. I'm always on the lookout for the next big thing because I'm really interested in how technology and healthcare work together. And while tech startups are often thought of as the most innovative, it's hard to ignore the huge changes happening in healthcare. Anna Rydzewska comes in with Grupa NEUCA. Anna is changing the way patients are cared for by combining digital solutions with a human touch in a way that is both innovative and forward-thinking. It has to do with making healthcare easy to get, personalized, and most of all, focused on the patient.
