Storage is essential for an energy transition, as many renewable energy sources are intermittent, i.e. they are available depending on the resource, regardless of grid consumption.

The SafeREnergy Hub is rejoicing over this year's Federal budget. Not only has the Government unveiled a $27.7 million investment aimed at integrating energy resources such as batteries and solar into the energy grid, but an additional $523.3 million is also earmarked for the Battery Breakthrough Initiative. The Battery Breakthrough Initiative, delivered by Australian Renewable Energy Agency (ARENA), aims to "supercharge Australia's net zero transition." It will do this by enabling technologies, increasing renewable energy supply in Australia and providing financial assistance and knowledge sharing to accelerate innovation. Our battery research, supported by the Australian Research Council, is very specific, however, any funding that promotes the broader advancement of Australian battery research is a valuable investment in meeting our future energy needs.
