There’s nothing quite like spotting an elusive Blanding’s Turtle in the wilderness when out and about in the Kawarthas. This beautiful turtle is easily recognizable by its brilliant yellow neck and dome-like shell. Two of the main threats to Blanding’s Turtles, which are listed as a Threatened species in Ontario, are habitat fragmentation and car strikes. Kawartha Land Trust is working with supporters like you to conserve more natural lands and protect vital wildlife corridors. For species like the Blanding’s Turtle, whose existence hinges on the ability to traverse considerable distances for nesting and finding overwintering sites, these corridors are necessary to their continued survival. 🎥 Witness the return of an iconic species in Sweden's rivers! 🌊🐟 For the first time, the critically endangered Atlantic sturgeon has been reintroduced in Sweden. The release in the #GötaRiver marked a crucial step in bringing back this iconic species after a century of absence. Supported by our European Wildlife Comeback Fund, the "Return of the Sturgeon" initiative released 100 juvenile sturgeon, taking the first step toward restoring healthy, self-sustaining populations in their native habitats. Loisaba Conservancy (Oryx Ltd.) in Kenya, with support from The Nature Conservancy in Africa, is using large machines and tiny insects to tackle invasive Engelmann prickly pear (Opuntia engelmannii).
