Our CEO, Mari Granström, opened the impactful panel discussion at the 2nd Mission Arena by Blue Mission Banos Project #bluemissionbanos (BAltic & NOrth Sea). The session, titled "Nurturing the regional innovation ecosystem", focused on on the support measures offered to companies and how they can facilitate success for startups in innovative blue sectors. The session involved active contributions from participants, which will help shape regional priorities. In the end, Mari revealed the action points that Origin by Ocean will be focusing on regarding the mission. One of the major focuses is, of course, regeneration. We want to make the value chain used for the chemical industry regenerative. As for the business support part of the mission, it also involves educating consumers about the value chain. Most people don't completely know what ingredients are used in their everyday products. It makes a big difference what you use at home, as most things we use on land end up in the waterways and oceans. Therefore, increasing awareness of the choices consumers make when buying products is vital. From this mission, we can actually say that we implement value chains that have an impact all the way from the feedstock, so from sea to land and land to sea. #OriginbyOcean #BlueMissionBANOS #balticsea #regeneration

It was a pleasure to moderate an exiting panel discussion yesterday @Cleantech capital day/Cleantech Scandinavia, on the future of Bioindustry and Circular Economy with industry leaders: Thomas Grotkjær from Novo Holdings, Iiro Tiilikainen from Taaleri, and Erik Juhani Kolehmainen from Metsä Group. The path of new and innovative Bio-solutions and Circular Economy is one of the most significant ones for us to get our planet back into its right shape. In these solutions lie among others the future of how we produce food, manage agriculture, and develop packaging. And it’s all solutions that can coexist harmoniously with nature. Four interesting points we discussed was: · What are the most promising opportunities within bio-industry solutions, and the circular economy area: biochemicals, biofuels, bioplastics, biopackaging, biofertilizers, new biomaterials … · How do we solve the challenges in scaling up startups in this area, and how do we bridge the gap between groundbreaking science and commercial success … · The impotence of the investors' role in supporting the early stage growth of startups and VC funds in the ecosystem in the Nordic, so we ensure all the needed innovation gets from lab to the market … · How do we ensure cross-Industry collaboration and integration with industry experts - to help evaluate the technical and market potential early, help make informed investment decisions, and help build an efficient integrated supply chain, to get to cost-to-scale ...  Afterwards we had one of our amazing startup investments - CELLUGY®, Isabel Álvarez-Martos / Clara Capparelli, producing bio-cellulose for the cosmetics and packaging industry - to pitch for a strong panel of investors.
