I have had some really bad managers in the past. My first one, I was there for 5 years and bettered myself, passing AAT exams over 3 years. After those 5 years I wanted to test myself by getting a better job. From the moment I handed in my notice he never spoke to me once. Even worse, my new boss in my new role showed me his notes from speaking to my former boss for a reference. He gave me the worse reference anyone could ever give you, full of hate and slander. My new boss didn't believe any of it and showed it to me. I went back to my old company and reported my old manager to HR. Obviously, they didn't really want to speak to me much about it, I was very young at the time and didn't push it further. Apart from this I have had plenty of managers, but only one was a true leader, and I hope he doesn't mind me mentioning him Seim Munif. Cared about all his staff, was always helpful when there were problems and looked after his staff, even though he worked crazily hard himself. It made me always want to go the extra mile for him. Definitely a true leader in my opinion and the very best Manager/Boss/Leader I have ever had. I could say much more about him, but not enough room on here to justify how he was.

I will take all of these leadership points to heart adding them 3 at a time to my Leadership style & approach. I will start with 1. Having the hard but necessary conversations. 2. Celebrating achievements both big and small. 3. Leading by example. I understand that work environments can vary but the core things that bring cohesiveness to teams doesn't and if we master our own emotions first, then start callibrating our capacity to care at critical career impacting moments for our coworkers we will all exceed expectations in both performance and personal growth.

This is true. I still remember 2 of my managers a few years into my Consulting career. They were both "people" people. They really took the time to grow each of us, and give actionable feedback on how to grow our careers. They never made us feel small even if we took a misstep. I use them as the guide for anyone I work with. So you never know how you impact others. :)

That is so true and conversely people will remember you if you do not treat them with empathy

It’s a small world. It’s an amazing feeling rejoining someone you lead previously and having them telling others in advance that good things are coming.

Top quality person is often judged on how they treat others…. I always take inspiration from my managers from my previous workplace. Never forget the people (managers/leaders) who helped you grow when you just started. Remember thier and support and guidance as life long learning.
