Great night last night at the TechSec Leadership: Dallas Networking Evening event facilitated by Kodi Connect LLC. We did some great networking with great people from companies around the DFW Metroplex area. Shout out to the vendors and presenter for a great job! The presentations by, and discussion with, the vendors present at the event were valuable. The discussions highlighted the growing threats and growing solutions in the Cybersecurity space as the bad guys use new technologies and methods to accomplish their goals. At the same time, it exposed the great work done in the security space to help make our world safer. The work continues and new solutions are becoming available. One of the thoughts that kept coming back up in my mind is the role humans play in keeping things safe or not. Awareness goes a long way. As we wrap up Cybersecurity Awareness Month I would urge everyone to keep the awareness up.  Both in your personal life and business environments. This awareness month should carry through and become part of daily life. Be diligent, don’t relax, and keep in mind this is true: A little awareness goes a long way to avoid trouble later.

We often hear the adage, "Make lemonade with life's lemons," but sometimes making lemonade is not enough. When I experienced harassment last year, I was shocked by the shame I felt. Despite knowing that I didn't invite it, violating my boundaries left a lasting impact, and it hindered my ability to be present at the event. I was lucky enough to have 30 years of corporate experience, knowledge about harassment, and an incredibly supportive husband (thank you, Eric Venditti), and he reflected to me that I could solve this problem. I realized the issue wasn't only sexual harassment; it wasn't only women experiencing misconduct. Bullying, discrimination, microaggressions, and harassment at B2B events and organizations are rampant, profoundly impacting those who experience it. In one year, SafeSpace Plus ™ has brought incidents close to zero in events with thousands of US and European participants. I am so proud of my mighty team (Andrea Purón, Leslie Suzeth Rodriguez, and my amazing co-founder Eric Venditti), who bravely dove into the deep water with me, creating a solution that didn't exist before. We have the evidence that when we prevent misconduct, leaders make a difference for hundreds, maybe thousands of people. If you have experienced misconduct in the workplace or at professional events, know that you are not alone, know that it is not ok, and demand change. Join me in my dream that everyone can fulfill their potential, free from harassment, bullying, or discrimination. Let's make some margaritas with these lemons.

RYLA changed my life at the age of 15. So much so that I’ve volunteered for Rotary District 5280’s RYLA for the past 18 years. The lessons that I learned and now teach at RYLA are the foundation of my work ethic and style. They inform the ways I navigate leadership, team dynamics, productivity, and problem-solving. We teach students about their working personalities and how those personalities connect and conflict with each other in team settings. We teach students how to utilize the fundamental “Four C’s of Leadership”: Communication, Creativity, Compassion, and Cooperation. We give students a safe space where they can express themselves freely without judgment.
