This summer, I've been focusing on enhancing our son's independence and social behavior skills through everyday projects. Recently, I stumbled upon an article about Project-Based Learning (PBL) and realized that we've been practicing many of its principles, albeit without group participation. Inspired by this realization, I decided to write an article to spark a conversation among students, parents, and teachers about the potential of PBL for the additional needs community. I recently listened to another impactful episode of Conversations with Keita Demming, where he spoke with Jessica Holmes about mental health in the workplace. 🦅 🐺Keita always asks his guests two important questions: “How do we become better people in business and how do we become better business people?” After reflecting on their insightful discussion, here are my thoughts on how an employer can become a more compassionate and effective leader when addressing an employee who is struggling with mental health.  “Understanding that everyone faces challenges in their lives is crucial. By acknowledging someone's struggles and giving them the space they need, you help them accept their situation and find ways to overcome it. Often, those dealing with difficulties feel that their boss either doesn’t care or doesn’t believe in their struggles, which only makes things worse and hinders their ability to seek help. A true leader listens, acknowledges, and provides the necessary space, allowing the person to either ask for assistance or find it on their own. When people feel heard, they are more likely to reach out for the help they need. A true leader doesn't have to fix the issue; they need to listen and create an environment where the person feels supported enough to seek help.”  #MentalHealth #Business #Employer

I'm grateful I took the time to listen to 🦅 🐺Keita Demming, Ph.D and Henna Pryor, PCC discussing awkwardness, as it's something we all experience, whether we admit it or not. I'm taking time to sit with the end of their conversation. Here's my take away from that part of their conversation: To make a meaningful impact on this world, it's important to prioritize the issue you're addressing over concerns about how others might perceive you or your approach. Embracing this mindset allows you to stay focused and passionate, even in the face of inevitable pushback. Remember, all great change comes with challenges, but your dedication will make a real difference.

I'm grateful my friend Christian Long had the courage to admit his failures, both to himself and to others, allowing them to learn from his experience. Here are two of my takeaways from this story: first, it reminds me that we learn from each other, whether it's immediately apparent or not. Second, it demonstrates that failure is a key part of learning, and admitting failure is a sign of strength, not weakness.
