How might an enemy attack the U.S homeland? Using our survey of critical infrastructure, we imagined a campaign of subversion and cyberattacks against the United States. While the events are fictional, we link each one to a critical infrastructure attack that has already happened in real life. We need to take homeland defense seriously, and also the preparedness of the civilian interagency beyond DoD. More than anything else, though, its about resilience. Recent incidents, such as the attack on the power line in Brandenburg and the failure of undersea internet cables in the Red Sea, demonstrate that infrastructure terrorism - is not just a hypothetical threat - it is clear that the failure of individual structural elements can have massive and far-reaching consequences. -therefore, protecting neuralgic elements is crucial. However, it is impossible to fully protect extensive infrastructure networks. European Commission published a recommendation on Secure and Resilient Submarine Cable Infrastructures https://lnkd.in/ea2B8hZw   Key Takeaways:   💡The Recommendation sets out a series of actions at national and EU level to improve the security and resilience of submarine cables through better coordination across the EU, both in terms of governance and funding. 💡Member States are encouraged to cooperate with the European Commission to assess the effects of the Recommendation by December 2025, with a view to determine appropriate ways forward.   Key recommendations to Member States include:   ✅Apply military standards to protect these assets. ✅Mapping and identification of each cable. ✅National risk assessments of the cyber and physical security of submarine cable infrastructures and their supply chains. ✅Increased obligations on suppliers and operators to ensure the security of sensitive parts of the infrastructure, including planned changes to systems. ✅Regular stress testing. ✅National fast-tracking of permit granting procedures. ✅Funding of Cable Projects of European Interest.   Would this continue as a regulatory escalade?
