I'm thrilled to share a project I'm extremely proud of - a social media rebranding campaign for Star Creative Group that resulted in a 300% increase in followers and a 500% boost in engagement! This project was a huge success, and I'm excited to share the details with you. Before the campaign, our social media handle was lacking a clear visual identity and consistent tone, leading to low engagement and a small following. However, after developing a comprehensive brand strategy, creating a fresh visual identity, tone, and content calendar that resonated with our target audience, we saw a remarkable transformation. My employer at Star Creative Group was thrilled with the results, and I received a glowing testimonial: "Paul Iorpuu transformed our social media presence, exceeding our expectations. Their creativity, expertise, and dedication were invaluable." This feedback meant a lot to me, and I'm grateful for the opportunity to have worked on this project. Of course, the journey wasn't without its challenges. I faced struggles such as limited resources and tight deadlines, difficulty in aligning the brand's tone with the target audience's preferences, and balancing creativity with brand consistency. However, these struggles taught me valuable lessons, including the importance of thorough research and understanding of the target audience, effective project management and time allocation, and the power of creative freedom in driving innovative solutions. Times Square, Pocahontas and the pursuit of inclusive storytelling Last month, while working in NYC, I was struck by the unique energy that pulses through the streets, with brands broadcasting a plethora of messages to diverse tribes through countless mediums. Amidst the chaos of mascots and tourists in Times Square, a childhood memory from a Disney fancy dress party came to mind. I was told I should be Pocahontas, but I remember thinking, 'I’m not Native American, and she doesn’t wear glasses.' Growing up, I rarely saw myself on TV, and as they say, 'You can’t be what you can’t see.' This issue goes beyond mere visibility; it’s about being seen, heard, and understood. It's about crafting stories that consider different perspectives, delve into nuances and embrace details that resonate deeply with audiences beyond the mainstream. The dynamic interplay between brands, content and entertainment is pivotal in shaping a society that accurately mirrors its diverse population. Last week at the AANA - Australian Association of National Advertisers Reset Conference, a session highlighted the significant growth of immigrant communities over the last decade, with notable population increases from India (123%), Pakistan (157%), and Nepal (415%)- underscoring the cultural nuances—such as values, food, style and language—when engaging these audiences. With over 500 senior marketing professionals in attendance, it illustrated disparities in who creates, targets and represents our stories. As storytellers and marketers, we face the challenge of not only showcasing diversity onscreen but also ensuring inclusivity behind the scenes and beyond. This effort requires a continuous commitment to seeking diverse talent, thereby enriching our industry's insight, creativity, and impact. It compels us to deepen our understanding of the complex, multicultural marketplace we navigate. We bear the responsibility to demand and create media that depicts the world not just as it is, but as it could be. If I think back to my Disney party days, I hope the stories my children engage with will feature characters and people they can naturally identify with—not ones they have to force-fit themselves into.

I recently spoke to a friend of mine who leads a copywriting team. She called me for her ranting session after a tough day at work and shared something that got me whirring. During one of their discussion sessions, her line manager had dismissed her ideas for an upcoming project, simply because she wasn't a 'GenZ' and wasn't up-to-date with GenZ slang. As a millennial in her early thirties, she felt like she was "old enough" and was under the cobwebs already!🕸️ This conversation got me thinking about the value we place on seasoned work these days. Are we really prioritizing it or not? While I'm all for fresh brains and ideas—interacting every day with a bunch of GenZs at my workplace and living with Gen Alpha under my roof—I love and admire their thought process. I get to learn a lot and fascinate about the way their brains work. But yes, I also acknowledge the importance of a seasoned artist's ART! Not every 'daily endeavor' requires a completely fresh aspect to it. Sometimes, OGs can offer invaluable depth and insight that newcomers might overlook. Experience is something that has to be valued at work places. Ultimately, the blend of fresh and seasoned perspectives is what can create the real magic! M&C Saatchi Sport & Entertainment launches 'Fancom' report Recently commissioned research by M&C Saatchi Sport & Entertainment (celebrating its 20th anniversary this year) indicates that 63% of people use their passions as a way to engage with others in real life, showing that the real value for marketers isn’t just in connecting brands to consumers through passions, but in helping brands connect consumers to each other through the things they love. Managing Director Laura Coller said: “This demands a shift in how we look at audience needs and we believe there has been a demonstrable move away from the tropes of traditional fandom, towards what we call Fancom. Away from mass homogenised groups following a single attitude and towards communities coalescing around intersectional interests and behaviours.” From the 2,016 people who responded to the study, 8,276 passions were noted, meaning that the average person has at least 4.1 passions. In my role overseeing content and IP strategy at RO Pictures, I often find myself debating ideas with our creative team. When Cal and the team present a new idea, my initial reaction is often along the lines of "I don't like that", "I’m not sure I would watch that" or "That seems too niche." The conversation usually turns into a lively exchange with Cal explaining that I'm not the core target audience. As someone who enjoys more mainstream shows like The Gilmore Girls, Love is Blind, and listens to Taylor Swift, I don’t always share the specific genre interests that our team aims for. But I always encourage them to consider mainstream appeal too. As David Ogilvy put it: "The customer is not a moron. She's your wife." Very apt for us. Even with a genre target audience, those viewers have diverse tastes. By weaving universally relatable themes into the storytelling, we can resonate beyond one demographic. A horror fan still wants content to share with their family and friends. Mass consumers like me enjoy tailored messages hitting our interests. There's room for niche ideas to have mainstream appeal. In our debates, we aim for that sweet spot - ideas tailored to RO Pictures' genre while still containing universal appeal and commercial viability. Blending niche targeting with popular culture expands the commercial potential while retaining creative vision. We've learned balancing genre and mainstream opens meaningful connections with both targeted and universal audiences. While I may give initial resistance, once I see the final product resonating with audiences, I become a fan.
