They interviewed the founder of Dubai, Sheikh Rashid, about his country's future. He said: "My grandfather rode a camel, my father rode a camel. I drive a Mercedes, my son drives a Land Rover, and my grandson will drive a Land Rover, but my great-grandson will have to ride a camel again...” "Why?" “Hard times create strong men, strong men create easy times. Easy times create weak men, weak men create hard times. Many won't understand, but we need to raise warriors, not parasites.”

🏜Plant trees in the desert, like what is being done in western China. Your descendants will always drive Mercedes-Benz and Land Rover instead of camels.

Above story is by Meta university, never told by Founder of Dubai. Even then as per the story it never need to be like that, because once you have reached a level you train your team to excel than you.  Most of the business community train their children like tough worker.

Maybe from today's perspective the past was much harder... But the majority of people most likely experienced true life. Mostly enjoyed and lived with greater satisfaction, honest emotions & peace of mind than most people in modern society. It's just a perception of how old time was....... Just a few decades back the environment was much less polluted & food was organic too. Now mankind is searching for another planet...but still not serious about controlling pollution...At least the pollution almost guarantees that time ahead isn't going to be easy. I wish that coming generations get to see horses and camels, hopefully not in the zoo.

Courtesy of Brinley Salzmann who commented thus on one of my posts: “Seeing that Zeus grants lordship to the Persian people, and to you, Cyrus, among them, let us, after reducing Astyages, depart from the little and rugged land which we possess and occupy one that is better. There are many such lands on our borders, and many further distant. If we take one of these, we will all have more reasons for renown. It is only reasonable that a ruling people should act in this way, for when will we have a better opportunity than now, when we are lords of so many men and of all Asia?” Cyrus heard them, and found nothing to marvel at in their design; “Go ahead and do this,” he said; “but if you do so, be prepared no longer to be rulers but rather subjects. Soft lands breed soft men; wondrous fruits of the earth and valiant warriors grow not from the same soil.” The Persians now realized that Cyrus reasoned better than they, and they departed, choosing rather to be rulers on a barren mountain side than dwelling in tilled valleys to be slaves to others. This old saying is indeed true, unless proven otherwise; and there are plenty of examples where people with rich backgrounds have done equally well or even better than their predecessors. IMO, strong men should create good times and another set of strong men. Not necessary that only tough times will create good men. Create an environment and groom your successsors to keep creating strong men. Good times will automatically follow....

I find Sheikh Rashid's perspective deeply insightful. His reflection on the generational cycle of hardship and strength resonates with the broader lessons of history. As societies progress, there's a natural evolution from adversity to comfort and back again. It's a reminder that resilience and strength are forged in challenging times, and it's crucial to cultivate these qualities in future generations. His call to 'raise warriors, not parasites' underscores the importance of instilling values of perseverance, responsibility, and fortitude. In a world where rapid advancements can sometimes obscure the virtues of resilience, Sheikh Rashid's words serve as a poignant reminder of the enduring human need for strength and character.

It’s true on the cyclical nature of prosperity and adversity, and the role individuals play in shaping their circumstances.

I doubt the founder ever said such a thing. I've read countless versions of this. Oddly, usually Indian. This is my 1st UAE weak blah blah easy times blah blah. Come on!
