🇮🇳 𝗜𝗻𝗱𝗶𝗮 𝗜𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗽𝗲𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗗𝗮𝘆: 𝗔𝘂𝗴𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝟭𝟱𝘁𝗵 As India marks its 77th Independence Day, a mixture of emotions arises as we reflect on the tumultuous aftermath of hard-fought freedom. The journey to liberation came at a heavy price. Not only did Britain plunder an astounding $45 trillion from India during its ~200-year colonial rule from 1765 to 1938, but the partition of India also stands as one of the darkest chapter of the 20th century in precipitating in the largest forced mass migration in human history. The impact was staggering: over 15 million individuals were uprooted and sectarian violence claimed the lives of over 1 million with countless more falling in pursuit of freedom. This history serves as a stark reminder of the formidable challenges India surmounted to secure its sovereignty. The significance of this day personally runs deep as I remember my own family members who engaged in satyagraha (holding firmly to truth); willingly laying down their lives as freedom fighters for the nation and extending assistance to refugees in their quest for new beginnings. Their narratives, alongside those of other martyrs, continue to stand as a poignant testament to the importance and fragility of freedom and diversity. Their unwavering determination and the collective sacrifices have undeniably etched an everlasting legacy in India's history. Over a human life span of merely 77 years, India's progress has been truly extraordinary. The nation has experienced a deep and meaningful transformation, emerging now as a powerful global presence. With its rich diversity and status as the world's largest democracy, India has solidified its position as a formidable player on the global stage. Surpassing the UK, it now holds the distinction of being the world's 5th largest economy with projection to be a $30 trillion economy by 2050. The astonishing progress of India serves as a constant source of awe and instils a profound sense of pride. The Indian independence movement was powered by patriotic leaders who gave their everything for the nation and its people. It is their unparalleled courage and commitment that has made India into the proud, vibrant, and prosperous nation that it is today. The tricolour flutters across India, marking another Republic Day, It is natural that our hearts will swell up with pride when we witness the glorious parade at the Janpath through our screens, sitting at home. But does our patriotism extend beyond the parades and patriotic fervor that are planned for this day? That is a crucial question we need to ask ourselves today. We should not at present still be merely celebrating the past, We need to actively shape and give India a future it rightly deserves. Being good citizens should not be confined to a single day. Rather it should reflect in our everyday actions like- 1. Responsibility-  Let us not wait for someone else to fix what's broken.  Let us take the responsibility of cleanliness of our surroundings, opportunities for education and employment for the underprivileged etc. in our own hands . 2. Respect- We should be law abiding and respect the rules and regulations our government sets up for us and strive to make our community a better place. 3. Inclusivity-  Our strength lies in our diversity.  We should be vocal against discrimination and intolerance of any kind. Let us give the respect and empathy to others, as we expect for ourselves! Every action, however small, ripples outwards.  Remember, change starts with each one of us. A staggering 14 to 18 million individuals were uprooted from their ancestral homes, facing the grim choice of migrating or perishing.
