Here is a theory if your In a position to be a leader or your running a business or your e executive and you have been in that position for like 6months, a year or even two years. I want to tell yous something and that is that your still in the baby stages. At two years old at any level is still being a baby and shitting in your pants. Thst means you are going to make mistakes and you need tike to grow yourself into the business or the leader thst you need to be. You can't be a baby and think that you are going to run a corporation or that someone is going to let you be in control of they business. How often do you post about your business or how often you sit down and learn about your craft at work. Do you post frequently or do you post once a month. How often you read to work on your craft or learn a out your field or do you sit in front of your laptop and scroll on social media to follow people who don't give a damn about you. So do you want to go to the next level on your job, in your business or you want to get a promotion then you must put in the work and be patient as a person. A baby doesn't learn to walk overnight, it's a process of months or even a year. A Business has to grow and has to grow legs. To get to a position of leadership you have to learn amd grade the concept of being a leader. Knowing how to talk and deal with people. Today don't be in a rush to advance at no level. Be patient and let God work. Work for God and not man. Let God steer your business. Let God steer your life, let God be in control of everything you do. Some people don't get they business up and running until after 25 years and rhst is because the business has matured along the way That is why so many get a business early and it fails because they wasn't mature enough to run the business. So if you Ina position or your establishing yourself be patient at all levels and let things come to you. Don't be in a rush because you see someone else doing tje same thing your doing and they having success or it looks like they having success. "Two up, one down." It’s an Army thing, but it's also a key to business success. In the Army, they taught me that every soldier needs to know their leader’s intent “two levels up.” If you're a leader, you must convey your intent to the person one step below you without micromanaging the process. Why? It's based on the law of replaceability. Some argue that being "irreplaceable" is the key to success. They're wrong. Being "irreplaceable" hurts you, your team, and the entire organization. If you're irreplaceable, you're trapped (can't afford to let you do anything else). Making yourself as replaceable as possible is the real path to a great career and an even better business. As you "climb the ladder," in business or the military, it becomes even more crucial to make yourself replaceable. In combat, people can be unexpectedly... removed, and the Army needs to replace them without missing a beat - or people die. The same principle applies in business (except it's dreams that die). The higher you go, the more people depend on your role being done right (whether you're there to do it or not). If someone isn't there to lead, it leaves a void. That's why leaders mentor others to take their place if needed. It’s about passing down knowledge and creating a culture that can adapt and thrive. And it allows for you to move - up, or elsewhere - without hurting your team. As a business owner, you need to teach your staff the same principles. When your team knows the intent “two levels up,” they understand their role, contribute effectively, and see opportunities for their future. When you teach them how you approach decision making, they can make decisions aligned with your vision. Encourage mentoring within your team (and model it). When everyone focuses on making themselves replaceable, everything improves. You become the least important (but most appreciated) person in your business. "People spend time with me. We talk. And miracles occur." - Rich Litvin This happens with me, too. 💁🏾 Not at the same frequency. Yet. 😀 But it does happen. (For new friends, I shared this post earlier this year. For old friends, you can read it again. 💁🏾 ) In his book, The Prosperous Coach, Rich goes on to say, "...what I actually do is help my clients see their world differently. Because when you help someone see their world differently, their world changes. "When someone sees the world differently, they show up differently, and they create results that looked impossible a moment before. That is a miracle." The passage reminds me of an example of how I help my clients see the goal beyond the goal, the real reason buried deep underneath the stated reason they want to work with me. To make a long story short, here is a short story about one of my students: David, a seasoned professional, hired me to help him succeed on GMAT so he could get accepted to business school, graduate, and further his career. I tutored him, but in our sessions, I insisted that he actually talk with the admissions officers at the programs he was applying to, because it's harder for them to deny a candidate they have spoken with. So he did. End of story: Halfway through our block of sessions, David got accepted to his ideal MBA program without taking the GMAT, or any other test. This situation is not unheard of, but it is NOT common. My point is... What is my point? Trust me? No, miracles. I make miracles happen, often even before you pay me. I help you realize what your real goal is. You don't just want to learn how to write a speech for a conference. Are you patient? – could you be more patient? Building a successful business usually takes time – you must be patient: Here are seven key ideas to consider: 1.The "10,000 Hours Theory" originates from the work of psychologist Anders Ericsson and was popularised by Malcolm Gladwell in his book Outliers. The theory suggests that it takes approximately 10,000 hours of deliberate practice to achieve mastery in a particular field, whether it is playing an instrument, playing sports, or excelling in business. So, practicing 40 hours a week (like a full-time job) would take about 4.8 years to reach 10,000 hours and practicing 20 hours a week would take 9.6 years. You must be patient. 2. I tell my clients and potential clients that starting a business is like the game of Monopoly – you start going round the board and very little happens – you pass “Go” and pick up £200 and hopefully you get some Free Parking and you avoid the “Go to Jail” space – and then you buy a house and three others – and you can buy a hotel and like the snowball rolling down the hill, you have momentum – but to get that momentum, you have to go through that “nothing happens” period. You must be patient. 3. In his wonderful book Mastery: The Keys to Success and Long-Term Fulfilment, George Leonard discusses the concept of the plateau as an essential and inevitable part of the path to mastery. The plateau as a phase in learning where visible progress seems to stall – then you get an uplift, and you are onto another plateau – you must be patient. 4. Building a business often demands a lot of hustle, but the best results come when you "hustle patiently." The Roman saying “Festina Lente,” or “make haste slowly,” captures this perfectly. It's about finding the balance between urgency and patience, ensuring you don’t rush into mistakes. 5. Jack Welch, was an American businessman, best known for his tenure as the CEO of General Electric (GE) from 1981 to 2001. During his leadership, GE's market value soared, making him one of the most respected and influential business leaders of his time. He had a theory to "wallow in a problem” thoroughly exploring a problem before jumping to solutions. This idea contrasts with the tendency in many business environments to seek quick fixes or rush to conclusions. 6. The phrase "chopping wood and fetching water" originates from Zen Buddhism and reflects a teaching that most activities including business involves many mundane activities – but just embrace them and be patient. . 7. John Fairley, my senior Partner at JFP Strategic Planning, is a good networker. I was recently at a networking lunch with him and he appeared at the lunch table with the Senior Partner of a well-known Accountancy Practice – and he says “It’s great, Ian and I have been chatting for 20 minutes and we have not yet talked about business! “. It's an opportunity to grow emotionally and professionally, honing your ability to navigate challenges with grace and determination. #### Knowing When to Pivot Not every unfinished task warrants persistence. Sometimes, despite our best efforts, external factors or shifting priorities render continued pursuit impractical. Recognizing when to pivot or abandon a project is a mark of strategic acumen. It's about aligning your goals with market demands and personal values. If a venture consistently meets roadblocks or no longer resonates with your vision, it may be time to reassess and redirect your energy towards more promising endeavors. #### Realigning Goals for Success Failure serves as a powerful catalyst for introspection. It prompts you to reevaluate your objectives and ensure they remain relevant and meaningful. Are your current goals aligned with the evolving needs of your business? Do they reflect your core values and aspirations? By periodically realigning your goals, you ensure that every endeavor contributes meaningfully to your long-term success. ### Conclusion In the dynamic world of business, encountering tasks that defy completion is not just inevitable—it's instructive.
