"The guys producing our food are getting f**ked at every turn." George Lamb Lamb, co-founder, Wildfarmed. The people who are meant to look after the land and grow nutritious food are those who receive the smallest portion of profits. During recent protests, farmers using a range of different practices - from regenerative to traditional - have been taking to the streets to argue they're being squeezed between environmental policies and cheap food prices. According to George Lamb, co-founder of Wildfarmed, that doesn't make any sense. Wildfarmed promotes sustainable agriculture by connecting regenerative farmers producing nutritious flour with bakers who care about their craft. Their mission is to support biodiversity, soil health, and reduce the environmental impact of farming, while providing consumers with responsibly sourced, high-quality food products. We met George at the Regenerative Agriculture and Food Systems Summit organised by Kisaco Research: Food, Drink & Wellness in Amsterdam last September. Our work is driven by the essential transformation of food production in Europe for a more sustainable world. The name PATHWAYS implies we are at a crossroads, and this is true! The future holds many possibilities. 📈We're seeing a paradigm shift in how we produce and consume protein. Meala Foodtech is at the forefront of this revolution.🌱 "Innovations in ingredient processing can influence taste and price and make downstream processes, such as formulation and texturization, less resource- and time-intensive." Novel meat alternatives may be associated with a range of benefits, compared to their conventional counterparts: 💡 #Environmental – Compared to their conventional counterparts, novel meat and dairy alternatives may in many cases be associated with reduced GHG emissions; reduced land use; and reduced pollution from animal waste and agricultural chemicals. LCAs suggest that plant-based meat products can reduce land use and GHG emissions by 86-97% and 67-89% respectively, compared to conventional beef. 💡 #Human health – Novel meat and dairy alternatives can generally be expected to reduce risks associated with the emergence of antimicrobial resistance and zoonoses. 💡 #Animal welfare – Replacing conventional meat and dairy with novel alter natives would significantly reduce the number of animals being reared and killed for food, often in conditions that raise concerns about their welfare. But the #potential of novel meat and dairy alternatives goes beyond just environmental and health benefits. They also offer a chance to create a more just and equitable food system. By supporting small-scale producers and diversifying our food sources, we can build a more resilient and sustainable food system for all. This is just the tip of the iceberg. To ensure a secure #food supply for its population in 2035 while implementing the federal "Climate Strategy for Agriculture and Food," #Switzerland will need to enhance productivity and sustainability in food production.  The domestic agricultural sector remains vital for future food security. New technologies and farming methods, such as precision farming and methane-reducing food additives for livestock, are crucial for boosting productivity and sustainability.
