For those on the path – circle facilitators and or Way of Council people – The Deepening I will be leading a Deepening Training over four days from 7-10th August in Czechia, article here, link below You have offered, gone out and served, learned a few things and seen results that lead on to another learning, and another, and another. If you have stayed longer than most, not lost interest or migrated to another discipline, you see that this learning in service can only grow, offers self-devolpment and much beyond toward the expansion of collective potential, and commit to a path of council that unfolds before you. The carrier and facilitator who is exploring the path and not been dissuaded by the unpredictability, fickleness and unending complexity of human communications, has made an observation that one’s own judgements, filters and mood, are often variable and by due consideration must have a large influence in contributing to the field. By this growing responsibility, capacity to be present and attentive to service, another stage is presenting itself for pause to reflect on; “Who am I in this council, this work? What am I asked to do here, and what kind of container am I offering... How can I co-create and carry a deeper experience?” And at some point, comes an awareness that what you do and way you do it, is intimately connected to the spirit of what council is, they are not separate. This is not just a tool, a methodology, a set of facilitated movements that produces something that has been written about, given or taught and that you have taken under your wing. More it is a moving away from a replication of former experiences and how you saw others do, into a weaving, a living council between one’s unconscious, conscious and super-conscious self, the other and the world. In other words, a living example of the practice. The deepening of a path asks us to take a look inside and listen to the listening, a checking in of who is speaking and examine more closely the "inner voices", patterns and shadow that can cross the path, bring gifts and invite awareness. In a three-dimensional world, shadow is necessary to give form, presence and substance to something. It’s called life, and as such, Council contains it, sits with it and turns into it when necessary. Such council work is ‘necessarily’ done in co-creating a field of mutual learning and support, guidance and feedback, to deepen our work and intentions and to contribute to the current focus each of us holds. Witnessing and expanding on what is already known, along with field questions and collective enquiry become essential ingredients to examine our practice of role and response-abilities. It was a pleasure to speak at the UK200Group Annual Conference to an audience of highly talented lawyers and accountants. Thanks for your attention (even for the last session on the final day!). Some key points for anyone who was ‘losing it’ at that stage: 1 The professions face massive change (driven by technology, client demands, and shortage of skilled people). 2 Unless people are learning faster than the rapid rate of change, they will fall behind. 3 For busy lawyers and accountants, this learning challenge cannot be achieved through traditional classroom or on-line training. 4 The magic numbers 70:20:10* and the UK200Group Knowledge Hub** provide an answer: ·      Get a grounding in the subject, using the Knowledge Hub (10%) ·      Learn ‘in the flow of work’ through purposeful practice and reflection (70%) ·      Learn from interaction (including through the Knowledge Hub) and feedback (20%) ·      Keep a Learning Log (the Knowledge Hub can do this for you). 4 The Knowledge Hub provides firms with tangible evidence that they take the development of their people seriously, so helping to attract, engage and retain great people. * Research by the Center for Creative leadership showed that people learn 70% from experience, 20% from interaction, and only 10% from formal learning. ** The Knowledge Hub is a Firm Academy platform that UK200Group has embraced to provide resources to member firms, their partners and staff.
