Rama Vaghmare MD Radiation Oncologist Hyderabad, India Cancer prevalence in India is generally lower than in Western countries, with significantly lower age-standardized incidence rates for most cancer types. However, cancer screening rates in India are alarmingly low, with less than 1% of the population undergoing screening for common cancers, compared to much higher rates in Western nations. . Access to cancer treatment in India is limited, particularly in rural areas, due to underdeveloped healthcare infrastructure and lack of organized national screening programs. Dr. Rama Vaghmare is a distinguished Senior Radiation Oncologist based in Hyderabad, India, with extensive experience in high-energy linear accelerator treatments. As a Medical Director for Oncology/Hematology in the Asia Pacifi Region ( APAC) , she focuses on innovative cancer care strategies and advancing medical research.Dr Rama is passionate about dispelling social stigma attached with cancer.

We mourn the loss of pharmacologist Dr. V. Craig Jordan, who discovered Selective Estrogen Receptor Modulators (SERMs) and developed breakthrough breast cancer treatments. He was 76 years old. Known as the “father of tamoxifen,” Jordan showed that the drug, originally created to block estrogen and prevent pregnancy, could stop the hormone's ability to unlock tumor cells and cause cancer. He gave the failed contraceptive a second chance as a breast cancer treatment, saving the lives of millions of women around the world. Tamoxifen remains one of the world’s most successful cancer drugs and is on the World Health Organization’s list of essential medicines. “Dr. Jordan leaves behind a remarkable legacy that will continue to influence cancer research and treatment for generations to come,” says Dr. Peter WT Pisters, president of MD Anderson.
