Our founders at Force of Nature Meats should teach a course for corporate leaders on all things culture and creating purpose in the work place.
I was looking through our team bios on our wesbite the other day and I thought two things:
1.) Our team is cool as shit --> Check us out in link below 😁
2.) Our team embodies the mission and values of our company
How did our founders accomplish this?
1.) They founded a company with an insanely cool and impactful mission of creating a regenerative supply chain (not everyone can do this)
2.) They painstakingly and obsessively curated our core values
3.) NO SHORTCUTS in the hiring process. Almost everyone on our team chats with potential new hires and EVERY potential employee comes out to HQ to meet the team, see Roam Ranch and break bread (we celebrate food here at FON!)

#28 Compliment People Behind Their Back
The company grapevine doesn’t need to yield sour grapes.
Use it to spread the news, especially when it’s good news.
And particularly, when it's about someone else.
It lets your team know that that individual is doing well.
And when it gets back to that person,
it will most definitely be appreciated.
And they'll be motivated to create a virtuous circle that spread even more good news.

"La Placita Oaxaqueña’s success matters not only to Lopez and her neighborhood, but to businesses and communities across California. Making the sale of fruits and vegetables cost effective to corner markets and convenience stores could unlock access to wholesome food for millions in low-income communities across California and improve health outcomes.
As of 2015, nearly 3 million low-income Californians lived too far from a full-service market to access affordable nutritious food, according to the United States Department of Agriculture. For urban communities, that means more than one mile and for rural communities, more than 10 miles."
Check out this great article highlighting our Healthy Neighborhood Market Network program that is largely supported by City of Los Angeles's Economic Workforce Development Department.
It's been over 10 years since the inception of the program and we continue to evolve to increase impact in the communities we serve.

Last year, we adopted a beehive as part of our drive to be a more sustainable company, and we wanted to do something to help the local countryside.
Following on from our last update, the latest news from Stuart Weekes from SW Honey Farms is all about the hive inspection. 🐝
Once temperatures consistently reach around 13°C or higher, Stuart opens up the hives to check on the bees, their young (called brood), and their food storage. This is the first glimpse at the bees to see how they are, how effective their treatments have been and how well the worker bees have protected their queen. The queen bee is essential to the colony's health and so needs to be checked too.
Stuart says, “I look for signs of her presence, such as eggs, larvae, and capped brood cells. I also check her physical health to investigate her viability for the new beekeeping season.”
How exciting! Fingers crossed Stuart finds that our bees are having a good season this year. 🤞
Keep an eye out for our next update with the final checks that Stuart has to carry out as we get closer to our pot of honey! 🍯

The last 100
At long last we are down to the last 100 supers. 😅
Now I’m aware to be still extracting now is crazy and I agree. Combination of reasons why this is the case. Work load (big spike in sales in the run up to Christmas keeping me away from honey extracting). We purchased another bee-farmers business so had more bees to look after (now manage bees across 3 counties) and it’s just me extracting and doing the bee work.
Lessons that I’ve learned in 2023.
The problem with growing any business is growth is expensive. You can increase your bee numbers then your honey extracting facilities are too small to cope. The work load becomes too big for one beekeeper.
And the jarring needs to be done in a different room to the extracting room allowing both to be carried out simultaneously.
2024 will be another year of growth for us, mainly on correcting the above problems and bottlenecks. We will be looking hard on efficiency and where we can make improvements. The down side of this….it will be expensive to do but in the long run will be worth it.
I’ve always said, “do the best you can with what you have”. Even if it takes you longer to do.
It’s the journey that’s important in life. Il look back at this year thinking “Gruff you lunatic” 😂
At least the honey is forgiving and still runny!

Bossville Farms, a legacy family-run hemp farm based out of South Carolina, for instance, has managed to successfully add value to their agricultural processes. For them, adding more agricultural value involves transforming raw hemp materials into a variety of products and uses. This includes harvesting, drying, extracting cannabinoids like CBD and formulating products, quality testing, packaging, and marketing for distribution.
These techniques make hemp farming economically viable because they provide several income streams while catering to various industries and consumer needs and increasing the range of hemp-derived products, from CBD oils to textiles, that maximize the use of different hemp components. However, the same concept and techniques can be applied to just about any other raw material.

Thank you Forbes for shining a light on a very dark realistic past!
I 💕 this series (more than the previous two). However, I struggle to conflate this Clarkson with the gas-guzzling, climate-sceptic Clarkson of other media.
10m wide hedges with large buffer strips. Regen ag. Nature-friendly management. Love of wildlife. High welfare pigs and cattle plus tears when they hurt.
Clarkson could be the UK’s most effective mainstream advocate for wildlife, the environment, and sustainable ag.
However, I fear he may continue trumpeting an anti-progressive narrative for lucrative, right-wing columns, despite practising the opposite.
I hope the progressive attitudes depicted in Clarkson's Farm are real, and that it will permeate his other media.
It reminds me of my first graduate job, in change management consultancy, where I was taught the value of converting your greatest detractors, who often become your greatest advocates.
Fingers crossed Clarkson goes on to preach what he practices 🤞
It would be a welcome change to those who preach sustainability whilst practising the opposite.
