This week, our Mexico Country Head, Osvaldo Rance, participated in an insightful panel discussion with Mariuz Calvet (Chief Sustainability Officer of Santander México), Alejandro Malagón (President of CONCAMIN (CONFEDERACIÓN DE CÁMARAS INDUSTRIALES, MÉXICO)), and Carla M. (President of ASOLMEX) as part of Asociación Mexicana de Energía Solar (ASOLMEX)’s tenth anniversary celebrations. 🌞   The panel highlighted "Ilumínate, Sol para Todos," a circular economy program dedicated to creating a fair and inclusive energy transition by providing energy access to rural and indigenous communities across Mexico. Cubico is proud to have been an important and longstanding supporter and driver of the Illuminate initiative, managed by the fantastic team at PROYECTO CONCENTRARTE AC. This partnership has been instrumental in delivering over 700 solar kits to communities without access to electricity this year alone, lighting up homes and transforming lives. 💡   Cubico's commitment to these communities is evident not just in the provision of clean energy, but in our support for broader social initiatives. At the event, families benefiting from the 2024 program showcased and sold handwoven bags, with the proceeds reinvested into a food sovereignty program for the same communities. The AES Colombia team's commitment to excellence extends far beyond mere technological advancements, leaving a profound social impact in its wake. In 2023, we made significant investments in social initiatives aimed at bolstering agricultural production, fostering entrepreneurship, and promoting self-management. Among our proudest achievements is the Ruta del Agua (Water Route) Program, which has delivered over 960,000 liters of water to the Wayúu communities in La Guajira. Our social initiatives have touched the lives of more than 2,000 individuals across 16 municipalities spanning four departments. Over the course of 2020 to 2023, we implemented a comprehensive river transport plan in La Esmeralda, facilitating connectivity between Macanal's villages and neighboring areas, enriching the lives of over 6,500 people. Our holistic approach underscores our unwavering commitment to not only advancing energy solutions but also uplifting the communities we serve. I am extremely proud to highlight the groundbreaking efforts of the AES Colombia team, under the leadership of Federico Echavarria. Their work has brought about enduring changes to the country’s people and revolutionized the energy landscape. Through innovative projects like Jemeiwaa Ka'I in La Guajira, boasting an impressive installed capacity of over 1,000 megawatts, our team continues to lead the charge in renewable energy development. Solar energy opens up new perspectives The residents of Dique da Vila Alzira in the Brazilian municipality of #Duque de Caxias, north of #Rio de Janiero, are celebrating. A solar system now provides them with clean solar power. It was installed at the initiative of AMAC (Associação de Mulheres de Atitude e Compromisso Social - Association of Women with Attitude and Social Commitment), which has been working for women's rights and against domestic violence for 11 years. In addition to Solarize Treinamentos Profissionais and AESOLAR, which donated the modules, other companies that donated all the components for the solar system include Solar Group, which provided the mounting structures for the panels, Almax Energia, which provided the mounting tools, and Bold Energy, which distributed the modules. SMA donated the inverters. The grid connection was carried out by Solarize, who signed off the project and managed the entire process with the utility company. All the equipment was installed by community members trained by Solarize. This also has the advantage that the community can maintain the system itself, creating jobs or income. A fantastic project that directly demonstrates the benefits of solar energy: not only is it free and affordable, it promotes environmental sustainability, offers new economic opportunities and builds community resilience. Building solar systems in underprivileged communities is a step towards energy justice.
