These days, racking up tenure in a job is far from trendy. But then again, our COO/CFO Jim Cihak has never been a trendy guy. Like our dad, he majored in accounting, after all – so, he’s a tried-and-true kind of guy. A trustworthy guy. And as of today, he’s the kind of guy whose first job (Woodbine Development Corporation) is now a place where he has earned 40 years of tenure. Those of us not as far along in our careers often give Jim a hard time because of his “senior statesman” status. But while we may joke about him being the most seasoned fella in the room, we never joke about who’s the smartest … because we all know it’s Jim. There isn’t a Woodbine project that doesn’t benefit from Jim’s institutional knowledge, industry expertise and incredible intellect. He makes the work better, and he makes our team better, too. And if weathering four decades of real estate cycles isn’t proof enough of the grit Jim possesses, then you must also know that Jim has also weathered the leadership transition from our dad John to me and King – exhibiting more patience and grace than my brother and I will ever be able to fully appreciate. His commitment to us, our projects, and our people all these years has been unwavering. He is the cornerstone of our Woodbine team, and to us Scovells, he is family. As such, King and I have let Jim know he’s welcome to retire whenever he likes – so long as he gives us 10 years notice. We’re thrilled to celebrate you, Jim! Thank you for your service and mentorship … and the privilege of getting to work with you for 40 years and counting. Here’s to as many more as you’ll give us!
