There are almost too many #Roblox and UGC gaming insights and predictions doing the rounds on LinkedIn for any brand or agency to make sense of and quickly understand the situation and what they should do. This chart (source Roblox Investor Day 2023) tells you 80% of what you need to know about the opportunity this represents in 2024, and why you should be building on Roblox, regardless of the your brand vertical. Conservatively we will see 500+ brand activations, in addition to huge numbers of new advertisers coming onto the platform to reach a large, brand safe, youth audience with video ads and highly interactive ad opportunities, not to mention the rapidly evolving and growing marketplace and eCommerce opportunity. Here comes the latest partnership with Roblox: users are now able to purchase movie tickets directly inside the platform. According to reporting from Alexander Lee of Digiday, this comes as a partnership between Warner Bros. Entertainment (WB) and Roblox, with WB looking to promote its upcoming film “Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice”, as well as Fandango which is operating the virtual box office in this Roblox experience. As a part of the partnership, tickets are available for sale for all U.S. Roblox users above the age of 13 and will remain open until September 16th. The purchase of a movie ticket also comes with extra perks like unique in-game items that have special effects in the “Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice” experience. The goal here is to test “purchase intent and conversion in a different consumer category” of entertainment, according to Stephanie Latham, Roblox’s VP of Global Partnerships. Cameron Curtis, Warner Brothers’ EVP of Digital Marketing, mentions the aim of this partnership is to “connect with Gen Z, where creativity thrives” and that this is “captivating a new audience and driving excitement for the theater experience”. Given Roblox has partnered previously with Walmart and E.L.F. BEAUTY for other physical item partnerships, it’ll be interesting to see how this converts for the audience as a marketing lever. IRL popularity can influence online popularity, and vice versa. This knock-off Stanley 1913 cup sold out on Roblox in minutes. While the brand's name is nowhere to be found on this UGC virtual item, its distinct shape is super recognizable. Brands like Stanley that are part of the cultural zeitgeist should seriously consider how Roblox fits into their marketing strategies. Roblox provides access to 70M DAUs, many of whom are part of Gen Z, which is super fragmented and hard to reach through traditional channels. 🏀 Daily Block: The #nba is quietly trialing a few different approaches within #roblox - Check them out ⬇ 1️⃣ The NBA opened its second Roblox experience late last year, this one dedicated to selling virtual team and league merchandise. 2️⃣ The newer experience, called ‘NBA Avatar Catalog,’ was created with developer F84 and includes a marketplace full of team-branded clothing and accessories, as well as the ability to shoot hoops and earn badges. 3️⃣ At launch, the experience included 5,000 free wearable digital wings (UGC) that could be claimed by the first people to complete challenges. 4️⃣ The experience has driven over 386K visitors since the launch. 5️⃣ The NBA also launched its ‘NBA Playgrounds’ experience in November 2023, a game-based 2-vs-2 basketball experience. The majority of them are entertainment IP brands that have built super sticky experiences that are updated regularly to keep bringing players back again and again. New additions this past month were from Shrek and the Olympics. Even though there hasn't been a Shrek movie in quite a while, the IP has found success on Roblox attracting over 6 million visits in July. The Olympics captured the attention of viewers around the world on TV.
