Almost everyone has opinions on tough topics. Yesterday in the airport, I overheard a teenager talking to a group of teens about his thoughts on the Middle East, including policies in Palestine/Israel. They appeared to be relatives traveling together, and the discussion got heated. Then quickly, headphones went on, iPads came out, and silence fell over the group. The vibe was anger, separation, and division.  Your co-workers are no different. Issues during election cycles can get heated and there is always another point of view. It is likely that your online post, a troll, or a statement at work will not change someone’s mind on a topic. I wish that civil discord could be viewed as a chance to be a generous listener, not as a cause of disconnection, more division, or damage to relationships.
