The most overused term in business in 2023 “Community” When did having a mailing list, a social following or having customers automatically qualify you as a community? I’m seeing more and more companies referring to their customers/followers as their community. Here’s a quick test to determine if you have an actual community. You can ask the members of your "community" if they consider what you have built to be a community. If they say no, you don’t have a community. You have a list Building a community takes a lot of effort, time and giving back. It requires people to feel like they belong to something. Building a list doesn’t. In 2024, let’s not get the two mixed up

I've been super intentional about joining communities for community people over the past year. Most of the time, I stepped back, waited, and cheered from a distance. 📣 HOWEVER, there was one big moment of FOMO and it was for The Community Community's Unconference. I've been curious to hear the results so I was thrilled to see Jenny's post talking about it and sharing lessons. First off - I love me some transparency. This delivers on that without breaking out the budget spreadsheet and going line item by line item. Second - everything considered the humans and things like accessibility, diversity, and well, once again, the humans. Third - the lessons learned and what they'll try next time, right there for the internet to see. Fourth - when an idea comes from community, it flourishes. If done with the right intentions and setup. Always a caveat. Fifth - be brave even if you question every single thing along the way. The results can be amazing. Check out what these badasses, Nikki, Amanda, Jocelyn, & Jenny did, and who knows, maybe you'll join them next year. Or come up with something yourself. Building relationships with your community is key to success. Whether it's serving chili at a town event or being an active part of the solution, small businesses thrive on community engagement. At T-Mobile, we recently made chili for our community, not for the sale, but to have fun and connect with our neighbors. Not only did we win first place, but we also captured leads and engaged with people interested in learning about T-Mobile home internet. Remember, knowing your community is how you win. #CommunityEngagement #SmallBusinessSuccess
