When evaluating the cloud as an HPC platform, one of the main decision criteria is often price/performance of the computing resources used in the context of a benchmark scenario. This of course is important, however what is also important, is the time a simulation… is waiting to be simulated. When resources are limited, engineers spend valuable time and effort preparing scenarios that will then sit idle in a simulation queue waiting for resources to be available.
