An Outbrain-Teads deal would come as a surprise to many, given speculation about SSP, DSP and private equity buyers. However, this consolidation would make sense - creating synergies/cost cutting opportunities, given overlapping Teads and Outbrain publisher client bases. Arguably, this is needed given challenges in the digital display ad market and Teads and Outbrain performance. Both companies saw revenues fall in 2023, and adjusted EBITDA decrease over the 2021-23 period. In terms of the combination, the companies have similar gross revenues Teads $649m (€600m), Outbrain $936m (in 2023).
