I know that posting pregnancy announcements on LinkedIn is typically not the “norm,” but here's the thing: SURPRISE! In about four short weeks, I'm going to be a mom! But this post really isn’t about announcing my pregnancy, though I am more than thrilled. This news comes with a bittersweet reality for many working moms in America. The greatest joy of our lives can also be the scariest, forcing us to navigate a career landscape with insufficient support. We often have to hide one of humanity's most beautiful gifts – the ability to give life – simply to keep a job, to secure the financial security needed to nurture a new life. The inequities for women who are building careers while growing families are real and substantial, and the sacrifices are heartbreaking. Which is why I'm incredibly grateful. Just as I am about to begin this amazing journey of motherhood, I was offered a full-time position with incredible benefits, including paid parental leave. This means I don't have to worry about the financial hardships that typically accompany taking maternity leave, and that is something I dare not take for granted. But this post isn't just about me. I'm highlighting this because I work for an organization – Instruction Partners – that truly cares about its employees. They actively support women's rights, provide ample mental health resources, and offer comprehensive support systems. This is a post about advocacy. All women, at every stage of their careers, deserve this kind of security. The ability to welcome a child shouldn't jeopardize their professional standing or financial wellbeing. So, the question remains: how do we move forward and create a future where this is the norm? How can we champion policies that prioritize both women's careers and their right to motherhood? It’s 2024, Something has got to give.

Say it louder, Dystanie, for the folks in the back! ❤ And as you move forward both into motherhood and your career, I look forward to seeing how we can all see this as a benefit to us all, not just the mothers.
