Last November, we were presented with a challenge. Knight Frank required a marketing film for an unprecedented land sale in Scotland. The sale of Far Ralia offers a unique and market first opportunity to invest in a fully funded afforestation and biodiversity enhancement project, sequestering an estimated 346,000 tonnes of carbon. The film needed to convey thousands of acres of replanting at scale, peatland restoration opportunities and the potential for large scale biodiversity enhancement. The project presented us with several issues. It was the depths of winter. We had a window of around 3 hours of shootable light per day. We needed to rely on the forecast, fly up to Inverness and pray to the weather gods. We need to show the potential for regeneration with large scale planting that hasn’t happened. Which would require CGI. We had to film before the first snow of the winter, otherwise it would be game over. Even Rob Hayward can’t make a film out of a white landscape. We got chased out of the airspace by a Peregine Falcon. We spent a nail-biting amount of time waiting for ground frost to melt and white outs to clear. We hired an SUV with ground clearance instead of a 4X4. We learned that you really do need a 4x4 in the wilds of Scotland in Winter. As a land sale, the land was just that – land. A lot of land! We are really proud to have crafted a story film with character from what was realistically very little to work with (a stunning landscape, but pretty wet, brown and dark in December!). Evocative music and a strong script also do some heavy lifting in this film. Real estate traditionally prioritises specifications above all else. So, we were lucky to have clients who trusted our advice and allowed us to strike a balance between informative and emotive with the onscreen wording. Overall, it was thrilling to be involved in a sale that has such huge potential to effect positive environmental change, in a beautiful part of the world. Earlier this year, we were successful in being selected by Cardigan Bay Marine Wildlife Centre to create visitor Interpretation boards. The purpose of the boards is to inform visitors of the centre's important conservation work for bottlenose dolphins. Working closely with Sarah and the team at CBMWC was paramount to the successful installation of the boards, and equally as important, to ensure all scientific information and conservation methods was accurate, clear, and easy to understand. We designed three separate interpretation boards; two explaining main conservation methods, and one to highlight the threats that bottlenose dolphins face in Cardigan Bay. To create a coherent design language we adapted illustration from the animation we previously created for CBMWC. Sarah of The Wildlife Trust of South and West Wales and CBMWC's manager said "The team were brilliant, very enthusiastic and willing to listen to ideas and explain what could and couldn't be achieved. Nothing was too much trouble and communication was excellent - timelines were kept. I really enjoyed working with the team." NEW VIDEO – Preventing a Shattered Landscape Are you wondering what we mean when we talk about “land subdivision?” It’s not the simplest thing to explain, but we did our best to boil it down in our newest short film. Together, we can prevent a shattered landscape. ------------------------------------------------ Amboseli is crossed by ancient lines, paths worn by animals migrating across the landscape in search of food and water. There are no barriers between national parks and community lands, and animals need both to survive. Now, new lines threaten to strangle Amboseli as land is subdivided into privately-owned plots. The result will be a shattered landscape and a collapse of wildlife populations. We can prevent this. By leasing their land to Big Life, people earn income and community lands stay open for wildlife. This is working in the Kimana wildlife corridor. Now, we must replicate this across the ecosystem. Subdivision is spreading rapidly, and we are at a critical turning point.
