🔥🌲 Attention adventurers! It's crucial to understand wildfire warnings, watches, and behavior, especially when exploring New York State Parks. 🌳🚫 Wildfires can spread rapidly and pose serious threats to both people and nature. Here's what you need to know: Pay Attention: Stay informed about wildfire warnings and watches issued by park authorities. Ignoring these alerts can put lives at risk. 🔥 Red Flag Warning: Issued when weather conditions like strong winds, low humidity, and dry vegetation create ideal conditions for wildfires to spread rapidly. Exercise extreme caution! 🚨 Fire Weather Watch: Indicates that weather conditions are conducive to the spread of wildfires, but critical thresholds haven't been met yet. Stay alert and prepared for potential changes. Know the Signs: Learn to recognize signs of wildfire behavior, such as smoke, increasing winds, and changing weather conditions. Vigilance is key! Follow Regulations: Respect park regulations regarding campfires, smoking, and other potential fire hazards. One spark can ignite a devastating blaze. Report Fires: If you spot a wildfire or suspicious activity, report it immediately to park rangers or emergency services. Early detection saves lives and protects the environment. Evacuation Plans: Familiarize yourself with evacuation routes and procedures. Be prepared to leave the area quickly and safely if instructed to do so. Let's work together to prevent wildfires and preserve the beauty of our state parks for future generations! 🌿🌞 #WildfireAwareness #ProtectOurParks #WildfireWarnings

Over the past 20 years, Orange County has faced an uptick in devastating wildfires, wreaking havoc on communities and natural landscapes. To combat this, the Irvine Ranch Conservancy, along with OC Parks, the City of Irvine, the City of Newport Beach, and the Orange County Fire Authority (OCFA), are actively safeguarding our precious resources. The most crucial step in ensuring safety during wildfire events is preventing ignitions, especially during Santa Ana Wind and Red Flag Warning events. Here are key wildfire safety tips: - Stay alert during Red Flag Warnings and report potential threats promptly by calling 911. - Reduce wildfire hazards around your home using OCFA's home assessment survey. - Manage vegetation by removing dead plants, reducing fuel, and planting fire-resistant species. - Know when to evacuate and have essentials ready, including the six P’s. - Prepare a household fire plan and go bag with supplies for at least 72 hours. While we can't prevent every wildfire, increased awareness, preparedness, and proactive measures help mitigate risks. IRC and its partners continually monitor conditions, minimize hazards and alert others to potential fire dangers.

As Wildfire Awareness Month comes to an end, keep its ideas and practices with you throughout the summer and fall to help care for Colorado and protect public lands. Here are some of the most important best practices to help prevent wildfires: 🔍 Know before you go: Check local fire restrictions and be aware of use restrictions and any active fire closures. 🧹 Clear the area: Remove flammable materials within three feet of a campfire ring and avoid overhanging trees. 🚰 Be prepared: Bring extra water and a shovel if planning to build a fire. 👀 Never leave a fire unattended: Ensure you are always present to monitor the fire. 🔥 Use designated fire pits: If available, use them and avoid overloading the fire with fuel. 💨 Mind the wind: Pay attention to wind conditions to prevent ember spread. 💦 Extinguish completely: Ensure fires are fully extinguished with no visible flames or lingering heat. 🚗 Safe vehicle practices: Avoid parking or idling vehicles in tall, dry grass; heat from vehicles can ignite a fire. ⛓️ Secure chains: Ensure all vehicle and towed trailer chains are secure to prevent sparks. 🎆 No fireworks: Fireworks are prohibited on federally managed public lands. What are you doing to help prevent wildfires and spread awareness this summer? #WildfireAwarenessMonth #LeaveNoTrace #MinimizeCampfireImpact #TheNextSummit #BePrepared #PreventWildfires #RecreateResponsibly

The number of active wildfires in B.C. has surpassed 400 (as of July 23) and conditions remain hot and dry. Two fires have forced thousands of people to evacuate from Jasper National Park into the nearby town of Valemount. The time to "create, deploy and export wildfire technology solutions" is now, as explained in this Opinion piece recently published in the Vancouver Sun. #wildfire https://lnkd.in/e9Tiw89M

The Hawaii Wildfire Management Organization has launched “Wildfire and Drought LOOKOUT!” The annual statewide #wildfire awareness and preparedness campaign provides critical tips on ways you can prevent and prepare for wildfires. This season is no exception as we move into the drier months of summer. Here are some ways you can do your part in preventing wildfires: • Clear vegetation 10 feet around campfires and BBQs, keep a shovel and water nearby, and put them out COLD before walking away • Be sure machinery (chainsaws, weed trimmers) and recreational vehicles have operating spark arrestors and are maintained regularly • Heat from vehicle exhaust systems can ignite dry grass - only drive or idle cars on areas that are paved or where vegetation is trimmed and cleared • Fireworks are a common cause of brushfires in dry, grassy areas – attend and enjoy public fireworks displays to maximize safety and fire protection Visit hwmo.org/lookout for more wildfire preparedness resources.

The Park Fire in California, the largest this year, has scorched over 562 square miles, triggering air quality alerts and evacuations. Nearly 4,000 firefighters are battling this unprecedented blaze, which draws comparisons to the devastating 2018 Camp Fire. While cooler temperatures have helped increase containment to 12%, the danger remains high with "red flag" warnings in several regions. Join the discussion on the impact and response to these wildfires. Across the western US, wildfires are increasing in intensity and frequency—dozens of wildfires are currently burning across Oregon and Washington state. Key to mitigating wildfire damages is understanding where these are most likely to occur. The most-effective ways to mitigate risk is to limit new building in these wildland-urban interfaces, and to “fire-harden” existing homes. Oregon recently published a new map of wildfire hazard to help policymakers understand where mitigation investments and resources are most needed, and to inform land use, zoning, and building code decisions that seek to minimize risk—including where residents may want to avoid buying or building. Currently, only Oregon and California have property-level data on the best-available wildfire risk data (Washington is currently developing its maps). As wildfire risks continue to grow, such mapping exercises will become increasingly important. #wildfiremitigation https://ow.ly/H17A50SWaFv

Today is National Wildfire Preparedness Day. As we enter into the summer season in Arizona, we historically have some of the driest months of the year before monsoon season enters it’s peak. AMR Central Arizona, Rural/Metro Corporation and GMR assets statewide stand ready to respond to these types of incidents. But, many times wildfires can be prevented! Don’t forget to do your part. 1. Check fire safety messages and drought condition indexes before entering Arizona’s natural habitat 2. If you do choose to venture out, build your campfire in an open location away from flammable materials 3. Douse your campfire until it’s cold 4. Keep all vehicles off fuels and dry grass 5. Secure lose chains or other objects when traveling 6. Regularly maintain your vehicle 7. Avoid all types of fire during windy conditions We can work together to prevent manmade fires. #WildfirePreventionMonth #SummerIsComing #FireSafetyBeginsWithYou #GMRFamily #SafetyFirst
