Some weeks ago i gave a presentation in my local #Rotary club with the title "Electronic chips are the new oil - The struggle for supremacy and technological leadership between the #USA and #China". At the end of my presentation, I got also some questions about intellectual property and if it still can help today to secure innovation. A good question!?! My next topic will be about #openinnovation and if it makes patents obsolete or even really necessary. Rotary International Below: Photo from my time when I worked in Shenzhen.

#Korea and #Europe join forces, not only in battery research. Yesterday, it was announced that the Republic of Korea will join the #HorizonEurope research and innovation program as an associated partner. The association agreement will be signed in the second half of 2024 to enable Korea's participation in the Horizon Europe program as of 2025. 👨🔬 Then, researchers and organizations in Korea will be able to receive #funding under pillar 2 of the Horizon Europe program. It is the biggest part of the programme with a budget of €53.5 billion. 💡 Since Korean researchers will be able to apply for funding to carry out Horizon Europe projects as a coordinator or participant, research #cooperation knowledge transfer between Korea and Europe will be strengthened for mutual benefit. 🔋 And there is much #potential for cooperation, as I learned during a visit to the country earlier this month. I was part of a delegation of EU battery institutions visiting Korea, where we met with governmental institutions and companies from the battery value chain. 👍 In a meeting with ReLioS, a German-Korean battery network, many of the SMEs present expressed great interest in joint research projects. I am happy that this will now become much easier. 👉 Press release: https://lnkd.in/gb8-H365

Hittech Group is on a trade mission this week in Singapore and Malaysia. The Netherlands and Southeast Asia have a strong history of high-tech cooperation. Malaysia is a growing market with a strong foothold in the Semiconductor industry, which accounts for 7% of the global semiconductor trade. Part of this mission is Hittech Group’s attendance at the Netherlands Pavilion (Booth 3317, hall 6) at the SEMICON Southeast Asia (SEA) show in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, initiated by BOM (Brabantse Ontwikkelings Maatschappij) in cooperation with the Rijksdienst voor Ondernemend Nederland (RVO), Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Malaysia and Brainport Industries. Our CCO, Ralph Stassen, explains the importance of sharing knowledge and global cooperation. “We apply a local-for-local strategy within the Hittech Group, securing an international level of quality and innovation with a drive to let local economics contribute to our success. Part of our mission of sharing knowledge will be a Q&A session at the request of the Malaysian deputy minister of trade. He is responsible for setting up the Semicon growth plan for Malaysia, and it is apparent that the Malaysian government sees a large role in cooperation with Dutch companies. This was even more emphasised by the visits to our booth by the Prime Minister of Malaysia and the Chief Minister of the state of Selangor. ” 10 Dutch semicon companies came together at the Netherlands Pavilion: AAE bv, Besi Netherlands B.V., CoreDux, Hittech Group, HQ Pack, inPhocal, KMWE, Neways Electronics International NV, NXP Semiconductors and Sempro Technologies BV. #SemiconSEA24NL

Japan bets $67 billion to become a global chip powerhouse once again. Deep in the snowy northern island of Hokkaido, Japan is pouring billions of dollars into a long-shot bet to revive its chip-making prowess and insulate its economy from growing US-China tensions. A freshly created homegrown venture, Rapidus Corp., is looking to mass produce state-of-the art 2 nanometer logic chips in 2027 from an initial starting point of zero. By industry standards it’s an implausible challenge for an 18-month-old venture in a country that has fallen far behind overseas rivals on semiconductor production. #WarChip https://lnkd.in/d6-k64WZ
