Last week, I had the pleasure of delivering one of Lake Forest Graduate School of Management's Business Learning Sessions called Rebranding Yourself, in partnership with the Women Leaders of Abbott Network. Thanks to Cindy Morhaim for coordinating the event. One of the participants raised a great question...when/how often should you rebrand yourself? The answer is based on your own unique circumstances. Some common reasons people choose to rebrand themselves include: ◽ Career change (e.g., job level change, new profession, new industry, etc.). ◽ Organizational transformation that creates opportunities in new areas where you want to grow and add value. ◽ If/when you realize that your brand has evolved organically (nothin' wrong with this), and you want to play a more active role in developing and sharing your brand. ◽ You aren't getting opportunities, making connections, or adding value in the way you want. ◽ A personal transformation of any kind that prompts you to create a fresh start in your professional life. Today's #WeLeadComms Honoree is England-based Welsh communications specialist Angharad Planells.  Angharad has spent 15+ years at UK agencies, working with clients in industries including health and wellness, travel, pharma, parenting, beauty, and politics. Now in house, she supports external and internal comms strategy for a global aerospace company. She also lectures on the Communications and Media degree at the University of Gloucestershire, where she received her Broadcast Journalism degree in 2008.  Throughout her career, Angharad has been led by one simple principle - people can always tell when you're faking, so don't. "Hold your hands up when you've made a mistake but say what you'll do to fix it. Admit you don't know the answer but commit to finding out. Be a firm and decisive team leader but show genuine care for your people.   “Transparency isn't only good for business, it's expected. As comms leaders that doesn't mean opening the doors wide and seeing what happens. Transparency only works when it's deliberate and strategic, so a meaningful place for comms in the C-Suite has never been more vital for long-term success.” Angharad was invited to become a Fellow of The Leaders Institute this year, named one of Management Today's 35 under 35 Leaders in 2022. She’s also a #MentorMum, a volunteer scheme that helps women back to the workforce after children.  “My return to work was wonderful, but my experience is the exception not the rule. The Chartered Institute of Public Relations recently found that while women make up 60% of the workforce, they hold only 46% of PR and comms director roles. When I was on the application panel for Socially Mobile, a high percentage of applicants were from women-returners who were keen to learn how to move into leadership roles in PR after having a child. What does "having a seat at the table" mean to you? Last week, PATHBUILDERS partnered with Atlanta Business Chronicle for it’s semi-annual Women Who Lead event. Our President and CEO, Helene Lollis, kicked us off with a powerhouse panel consisting of Camye Mackey, Cheri Husney, Elizabeth "Betsy" Higgins, and Nicole Keaton Hart, who shared their views on what it means to have a seat at the table, how they discovered and communicated their superpowers, and how they attained their position of influence.  After the panel, Pathbuilders' VP of Client Experience, Pat Falotico walked the participants through a thought-provoking exercise centered on actionable ways to attain a seat at their goal table. Here are some of the key takeaways from the panel: *While it takes practice, it is important to keep calm and solution-oriented during chaos. *To set yourself apart, you need to embrace and highlight your unique skill sets and areas of expertise. *Choose environments where you can feel comfortable in your own skin. *Show people your superpower, don’t tell them – it is all about how you engage in the conversation and put yourself out there. *Ask for what you want. If you are not ready now, figure out exactly what you need to get there and commit to the path. *Introspection is super important at all stages of your career. *Be bold, be brief, be gone - don't be afraid of white space. *Find your grit. *It is incredibly important to build relationships at every level of the organization, from the receptionist to the President! #movingwomenforward #seatatthetable #womenleaders #careers #business
