@nanaslivingroominc In honor of Mental Health Awareness Month We orchestrated a bike ride in NYC’s #CentralPark Starting at 57st and Ave of Americas and making our way up to Harlem 110st and back to 57st. Before heading back to the retur the bikes, we removed our footwear and sat in the grass to reflect how does bike riding help or if it helps with our mental health? What was expressed was: As some was riding they felt 1. Free of thoughts 2. Didn’t feel held captive by every day thoughts. 3. It was a Mind clearing experience 4. Lifted the weight of evervdav off of them 5. Causes you to be present In general it is Social Interaction: Group rides and cycling clubs provide opportunities for social engagement, which can combat feelings of loneliness and isolation. As a 20+ year veteran of the O&P industry and the spouse of para athlete Sarah Reinertsen, I'm all too familiar with the challenges amputees face in obtaining access to the recreational prosthetics they need to live normal, active lives. And, to quote a popular movie from the '70s, "I'm mad as Hell, and I'm not going to take it anymore!" Which is why I joined the team at Levitate and it's why I started Running is a Right, a program of the Dave McGillivray Finish Strong Foundation. The mission of Running is a Right is simple: to provide pediatric amputees with recreational prosthetics and the training to use them properly. Period. On July 29th, Running is a Right hosted an event with Shriners Children's in Salt Lake City. It was our largest event to date, with roughly 80 people total in attendance, including representatives from Kizik, who provided free shoes for all the Shriners kiddos.
