2024 Trends and Predictions More streaming media companies are investing in live sports as a major pillar of their content offering. This shift does a few things to the market. First, it means that advertisers have more CTV partners to work with when planning their live sports media buy. Yesterday was an interesting day in the market. Watch this episode if you want to watch traders react in real-time to the day after NVDA’s earnings. These guys are day traders, because they can’t hold positions overnight. Although, they might have long positions in their own accounts. I started watching them during the trading day for a couple of reasons. I struggle keeping up with trends. Second, I joined Darwinex last month to build a live trading record in hopes of building capital. And so far, I’m getting clobbered by a system that seems to favor day traders, who have tighter stops. Day traders are nimble and can flip their perspective on a dime. They are the soccer players of the investment world. Just watch these guys flip from long to short mid-day. I can’t do that. It’s why I am a planner. What I can see are longer-trends. People like me, who aren’t nimble, compensate by focusing on the macros. While, I’m never going to be a good day trader, I’m going to have to adjust to the system. And so with these guys, I am learning the benefits of scaling in and initiating tighter stops at the entry points. More importantly, I am able to hear what names are on everyone’s radar. The night of NVDA earnings, my stomach dropped. I knew I was going to take a hit and get stopped out. It would be a painful morning. But, I noticed I would not be stopped out of AMZN and XOM. These two names tell us about the health of the consumer. They were not gapping up in after hours. I started looking at metals and energy names and noticed that they were all taking a hit. These served as confirmation that despite the excitement in AI, demand was falling. And so, I prepared myself mentally and emotionally to get stopped out, but then to initiate sell-stops if the market broke back down to the downside. And that’s what happened. One by one my sell-stops were triggered. The battle between the bulls and the bears is only just beginning. I suspect it might be a muted trading day due to the three day weekend. My plan is to watch the strength of any reversals we get today and plan accordingly.
