Data Scientist / Elite MTB Athlete / UVA MSDS Graduate / 2024 NBA Future Analytics Stars / 2023 Women in Sports Tech (WIST) Fellow
Prior to entering the world of data science, I had read books on data in sport performance, data in economics, and data in education, but somehow never stumbled onto "Invisible Women: Data Bias in a World Designed for Men" by Caroline Criado Perez. Between the understanding granted by my education in data science, and the lived reality of being an athlete in a sport dominated by men, Perez's presentation of the inequity (and in many cases, lack) of data regarding women resonated deeply. I know there is momentum and huge forward progress being made in women's sports, but what about transportation, housing, employment, and the many other areas where women are being ignored in the data?

Can you use websites without seeing or hearing them to make decisions? In Mongolia, 21 thousand people are living with vision and hearing disabilities. Within the last 2 decades, the number of people who have vision disabilities increased 3 times from 4 thousand to 12 thousand. The lack of accessibility to the official websites of Local Governments in Mongolia causes social exclusion while increasing social inequality. If we do not solve this issue, it will worsen the current social inequalities such as poverty. My name is Jargaldavaa. I am studying in a Master of Commerce program, specialising in Digital Transformation and Strategy and Innovation at UNSW, Sydney. This is my data storytelling project for the COMM5501 Data Visualisation and Communication course. I would like to raise and propose a solution for the issue of accessibility of Government information in online space through my course project. Access to information and accessibility for all is crucial to enable individuals to make well-informed decisions and participate actively in public discourse. In this course, I learned how to make great storytelling using data. I would like to thank my lecturer, Poon Leung and tutors, Melinda (Shu) Chen and Ying Jiang for teaching me important skills to support my personal and professional development. Overall, my self-assessment for my data story is 9/10 #unswDataVisCom

In schools we deal with a ton of data every single day. From performance trackers to attendance, the list of data is almost endless 🤯. But where does well-being come into it when we are dealing with big data? That’s the question we were asking at the Data in Schools conference in Delhi back in February. If you work in education and you have a soft spot for data then this is the event for you. It’s no secret that we love data at GEC so our founder, 🥊 Nic “Inclusion Revolution” Ponsford FRSA, packed her bags and headed off to Delhi to get the lowdown (and throw in a keynote speech while she was there!). Nic’s 24 years in education means she now looks at data through a different lens and has questions, like: ❓ Just because we can collect this data, does it mean we should? ❓ What else can we collect - and why? ❓ What is it we are learning from our data? ❓ Is it time to reflect on what we are doing with this data - how ethical is it and how does it support equity? ❓ Is data really therefore working things out for us, or muddying the water? Read Nic’s rundown of the Data in Schools conference for more information on how we can use data to inspire change and make schools more inclusive spaces for everyone here 👉 https://lnkd.in/eyzNBdfU #DatainSchools #EducationData #DEI #Inclusion #equality #diversity #inclusionrevolution
