Do something well and do it the same way, time and time again- Whether it is the same one you go to everyday and they know your order, the first time you have gone into one, order on the app or go to a drive through the experience is seamless and is always the same. Consistancy in experience is crucial and without customers knowing that the regular warm welcome is there to greet them when they walk in, the coffee is made just the way they like it and the branding and spaces remain familiar they won’t return. What Starbucks manages to do so well is exactly that. Consistency. The coffee always tastes the same, the staff behaves the same way and welcome you identically, the stores look the same and even with the fancy stores “Starbucks Reserve” they manage to keep the familiarity with a hint of ‘specialness’. Starbucks is also known for the moniker of ‘if you don’t like the drink, we’ll make it again just the way you like it’. Despite the majority of customer being unlikely to complain about the coffee or drink they have ordered, to those who will, having their order remade just the way they like it, is a fantastic customer experience and shows the staff and company care. So many brands, whether it be in Automotive, Retail, Tech or any other industry need to learn the simple lesson of consistency in brilliance. Did you know that Starbucks uses five major manipulation techniques to sell you their overpriced, mediocre coffee? ☕️ 1. Starbucks uses customers' first names to foster a sense of camaraderie.  They write the names on the cups and call them out when the drink is ready, establishing a connection. 2. They use Italian-sounding names to create the perception of high-quality coffee. 3. The employees at Starbucks are referred to as baristas. This helps to distance themselves from the image of a large American corporation and instead resemble a cozy neighborhood cafe. 4. The next tactic they use is to do with their pricing. The coffees are strategically set to convey affordable quality.  They are set high enough to convey a sense of value, but not excessively so that they become unaffordable.  5. Finally, Starbucks takes advantage of the Ikea effect by allowing customers to customize their drinks, making them willing to pay even higher prices.  The secret of Starbucks lies in selling an experience rather than just a simple cup of coffee.  The whole reason Starbucks really took off is because Howard Schulz, the founder, had a vision to create a ‘3rd place’ in between home and work. I fully agree with the line "The company needs to focus on being experiential, not transactional" (article By Nathaniel Meyersohn, CNN). In 🇯🇵 also, we see not a few companies / shops saying "in appearance" they say they are providing customers with solutions etc., but actual services are quite much transactional. In the case of Starbucks, customers / people seem changing themselves to look more for transactional services... This sentiment, common in Australia, made me ponder how Starbucks, despite its mixed reviews, became a global phenomenon. It dawned on me that consumers don't solely prioritise taste or quality; achieving love and loyalty is a multifaceted process. •Consistency, a key factor, is crucial in winning hearts, especially in business. •Trust plays a significant role, with factors like clear refund policies, exchange options, warranties, and accessibility influencing consumer decisions. •#Brand visuals and environment also contribute; people seek familiarity, even when in exotic locations. Starbucks Results: Starbucks raised prices, changed interiors to uncomfortable seating, thinking people paid for coffee. Starbucks forgot they were in REAL ESTATE business and buying Coffee was rent somebody paid to sit in store for hours. During pandemic customers picked up drinks and went away without lingering as seating was closed in Starbucks stores, so Starbucks decided customers came to stores for its overpriced drinks. Post Pandemic Starbucks designed its stores with uncomfortable seating to discourage seating, with uncomfortable seating, high drink prices, and mandatory tipping even in drive thrus, customers started questioning their Starbucks Experience, which is evident in the decline in the same store sales. #Starbucks #results #results #decline #inflation #tipping #recession #design #realestate
