Queen of Queens | Audio Series
For a long period through 2022-23, I had the opportunity to write for an Interactive Game story app catering to a vibrant and predominantly female audience aged 17 to 25.
I took some time to understand the choices format in Interactive Game Stories but with a little patience from my colleague and insightful suggestions, I did master it very quickly.
My colleague would say "Your female characters are so strong and powerful" I liked the fact that not only did SHE have the sensitivity as a writer to understand the depth of those female characters but also appreciate it.
One aspect of this journey that I particularly cherished was the opportunity to craft strong and powerful female characters. Hearing my colleague's praise for their depth and complexity reaffirmed my belief in the importance of authentic representation in storytelling. These characters breathed life into narratives that often veer towards clichés, injecting them with fresh perspectives and meaningful messages.
Next, a small stint at an audio content Platform - the creative producer kept making me write drafts after drafts for the first episode when I had already completed the story bible of 25 episodes and 4 episodes dialogues.
It took me a while to realize that HE wasn't very comfortable with the fact that the story had a female lead.
On being confronted HE clearly said "Your female character is very strong and powerful" As clear as he can get.
Wow! Same words - different meanings.
Queen of Queens - was born out of this dichatomy and more so like a rebellion against this deep-seated 'Male Hero Syndrome' in our Industry.
Another memorable meeting with a creative producer, of a famous production house, shook up my perspective on storytelling. Armed with what I believed was an "amazing" web series idea, I soon realized the industry's unspoken rules. The search for a HERO, preferably a MALE, became a priority, overshadowing the concept of multiple protagonists.
In a rebellious twist, I flipped the narrative on its head, defying the conventional norms. A HERO emerged – yes, HER. A female lead taking charge in a world that challenges industry stereotypes.
The creative producer may not have embraced the change, but thanks to that encounter, I now present to you a world that may not exist yet but it definitely should –
QUEEN OF QUEENS
In a landscape where traditions clash with the winds of change, let's break barriers and redefine the narrative together!
This equinox, as the day and night are balanced - the scales of power shall turn.
